Stasis ! Better for you than for Illians !

I doubt it would work on a standard sized map or smaller, but on large or huge maps my games have been routinely getting up into the 60s-70s by around turn 350 without much encouragement. Start a big war with about 25 turns left of the draw, raze a bunch, and you should get there before too long. Last Days, getting ahold of the War equipment, or being placed next to a good civ with high pop potential (for razing) would make it even easier to get to 100.

Still, if you can get Armageddon to trigger without having built BotP and then cast Stasis, you've got some major destruction potential since your cities are up and running and almost everything is dead.

Why play Illians anything but aggressive? They are the second best warmongering civ, after crusade Bannor of course.

I havent played the Illians so far but I am just curious as to what exactly makes them a good warmongering civ? Doesnt their power come at the later stages with their unbelievable strong heroes?

You're absolutely right Tugendbold (by the way are you a German compatriot or a fan of German culture?). The only way the Ilians are more effective in warmongering than other civilizations is their worldspell and if you manage to find Letum Frigus before anyone else does (Making you Aggressive, Defender, Charismatic i.e. +30% strength and +10% withdrawal for all units and -25% requirement for higher levels). Befor 0.34 Ilians were quite strong in early wars because of the +4 XP they got by their Palace, but in 0.34 this was cut, so their strength really lies in their late game madness.

Does anyone else's counter drop suddenly to zero? Is this just a graphic bug, or is this a game-ender because it'll be stuck on Stasis forever???:cry::sad::sad:

That should have been fixed in patch "c". What version are you using?

I tried patching it but the load froze, so I uninstalled and reinstalled two days ago. Do I have to install the patch seperately? Will doing it now work, or do I have to start a new game?? :(

None of the 0.34 patches break save games. So you can patch now.

I think the Illian world spell is vastly overpowered! 30 turns can be a long time in some games depending on the stage you are at. Also, if cast during golden ages, it renders them redundant. Golden ages should halt during statis and continue afterwards. It is particularly annoying for the Balseraphs if the Illians counter their world spell by making them unable to do anything.

now that's nasty. Thanks to that post, bals vs illian multiplayer games will seriously wreck friendships apart.

Maximize production, build a couple warriors, cast stasis, start samhain, game over. Assuming a conducive setting anyway. If you've got the difficulty up there, the ai wipes the floor with barb units using that outstanding modifier, and more cramped maps are easier for them to stick around in as well. With a good start though, remnants of patria for instance, it's a guaranteed wipe out of most ai sides right from the start.

A first turn cast is universally effective regardless of whether you're trying to kill them off with samhain.

Agreed! In my current (and first) game as the Illians (erubus map, ancient, advanced start) I found myself completely hemmed in by the Dovello, and behind them there were the sidar and the elhoim. Without Stasis I would probably have restarted that game (not fun going up against the only civ iirc that gets a hero unit free at the beginning of the game), but I decided to cast my worldspell, have both my cities make warriors and see what would happen... 70 turns or so later there were three less civs in the game and I had a very impressive empire (although extremely poor one :) )

I would suggest for their worldspell a reverse golden age for all opponents (-1:hammers:, -1 :commerce: on all tiles and halved :gp: growth). This would balance it a bit out, because you can defend yourself a bit better against barbarians or opponents if the worldspell is activated, but would still be quite a nuisance (which is probably intended). If you have thoughts concerning your upkeep because of no Anarchy because of this solution, I want to point out, that you could research on a very low rate instead - it's still better than anarchy.

I notice that Stasis also halts the generation of culture by buildings such as Dancing Bear. That seems wrong to me.
