What are your feeling about this wonder, and should it be in Civ 4? Please only select 2 answers in this poll.

What poll?

I am ok with it as it is now.

There should be wonders that unbalance the game. And others that make it more balanced again. That's the point of building something in a hurry and that your opponents don't have. Works that way in Real life, so it had to be transfered eventually. But they must make it work somehow, counterbalancing it with something else, eventually.

It's like the first civ that will have phalanxes, Greek fire, or cannons. Many civs that didn't have that were crushed(or annihilated/eradicated) for ages by those that had. But eventually, even these civs were defeated.

I agree with what you're saying, flamescreen. I've read articles by people saying they think this wonder is too powerful, and in my last 2 recent games, definitely.

In the first game I lost on demigod after taking out one civ with swordsmen. The next civ declared war on me and their Ancient Cavalries were overpowering. I feel I could have won in they didn't have these.

In the second game, a 5CC Monarchy, I didn't have horses but I was able to easily destroy the other civs with AC's. Why can I build AC's without horses :crazyeye: ?

Anyway, I guess it just depends on situation - which is the case with a lot of CivIII. I wouldn't mind them toning the unit down or making it available to everyone.

Just right, with exclusive resource.

Exclusive ressource? Why add a ressource again? The Ivory is enough rare as it! And once you have it, you have it... I think this wonder is powerfull, but not too powerfull, as AC is a good complement to our other units and not our only troops. And it doesn't last the whole game, just in ancient times.

Because the real Statue of Zeus was made of ivory and covered in gold. And in real life, ivory is pretty rare.

They made a huge status out of Ivory? That is a real wonder. But I don't think civ4 should have the same wonders (or have the wonders having the same effect) as in civ3. I preper to see new things.

Wonders were just fine in Civ II. IMO they messed things in Civ III.

Yikes! I tried to vote but somehow my firefox selected all and messed things up. :( I'm sorry, didn't mean to screw things up. Just ignore one vote on each.

For my own games I looked into the Scenarios and copied what I liked it. One of the things I did was making Ivory a required resource to build the Statue of Zeus. It makes it more fun and sometimes gives me a reason to destroy an enemy when (s)he does have ivory and I don't :).

It's funny how often the Spanish get to build it btw. If it's not me then the Spanish will have access to Ivory. Maybe it has to do with climate-related placement?
