I remember seeing a post about deleting techs to stay in the ancient age but i cannot use the search and I have searched through the forums post by post for the past 2 days and still cannot find what I'm looking for.

So my question is if you delete the techs past the ancient age will the game crash? I'm trying to play a scenario of my own, that has only a conquest victory, and want to stay in the ancient age the whole game.

Please help.

Go in the editor and set "NONE" at the Era of the techs you can search in the Middle Ages

You're welcome :)

BTW,welcome to CFC

Won't work. "Era=None" techs cannot be researched, traded, etc. They are used to give particular Civ unique units, improvements, etc.

The sentence "Go in the editor and set "NONE" at the Era of the techs you can search in the Middle Ages" sounds as though he's suggesting that Era=None techs can be placed at the end of an era to prevent advancing ...

... Of course, giving it 30 seconds more thought, if what was meant was techs REQUIRING Era=None advances which the Civ(s) do not possess be placed at the era's end -- then, yes, that should certainly work.

What I want to acomplish is never having any techs that go past the Ancient Age I want to stay with only ancient era units, buildings, techs, etc... I tried deleting all techs past the Ancient Era and I was still able to build Caravels, Marines, Tanks, etc.... I tried setting all unwanted techs to none as you said and i got the same results.

Any new ideas or am I out of luck?

You could delete the unwanted units and buildings, then.

When you looked at those units etc. in the editor, what tech did it say was necessary to build them? -- it's been awhile since I've done anything like this but it's possible that deleting the tech necesary to build a unit/improvement sets the requirements to "none" ... ?

Anwyay, the editor is certainly the place to thoroughly check.

Try doing this (I think this is what someone else already suggested):

Create a new tech in the ancient age that does not give anything but is required for advancement to the middle ages. Then make that tech require another tech, which is in era none. Then, as long as no civs have the era none tech, no civ will be able to research the new ancient age tech, and therefore no civ will be able to advance to the middle ages.
