Raven's Flight has had a culture expansion, and now we can settle on the Greek/Egyptian continent getting incense. If this would be my game, I would proceed as follows:

- Vandelay builds a settler (2 turns)
- Cabaret Voltaire completes the galley (2 turns)
- ship the settler, 2 knights, 1pike/musket, at least 3 workers to the other side
- found city on hill
- start improving terrain
- hurry temple
- hurry harbor, unless we connect via the Greek one
- hurry walls (protect this city)
- build barracks (hurry if we have the money)
- build harbor (to be independent of Greece's

I don't know whether I'm up for naming this city, but I would appreciate to have it called "Steal Incense", since this is my personal favorite naming style. ;)

This city will also serve as a gateway for future assimilation of Greece into Fanatica.

We don't need to rush everything immediately. The temple plus the walls will require about 300g. The rest I would do over the next say 20 turns. And you have to relate it to having the benefits of an additional luxury for the rest of the game for free. Plus the beachhead on the other continent.

The money needed should start to come in from us trading for the overseas resources, which will lead to lower luxury tax, which will lead to faster research, wich will lead to the AIs paying us gpt. :goodjob:

Being a commercial civ, now is about the time to pull ahead. If we achieve proper pop growth and increase the research power with libraries and universities.

First decision - do people support the general idea for this (ie, creating a new city across the bay from Raven's Flight?).

Personally - I see no reason for this. If we need it, either trade for it or take it.

tao, do you have a screen shot of this area that you could post to help citizens understand what you are proposing?

The position on the hill gives a 50% increase in defense. We will immediately get the incense. After we cleared the SE jungle, we can irrigate it to achieve pop 6 as fast as possible. For ships, we are in 1 turn distance from Raven's Flight.

Looks like a nice place for a city. Is this the area we're planning to blocade with our galleys?

Yes. The 2 tiles between Raven's Flight and the new city. :satan:

I support building this city.

I also like the spot a lot; don't be mistaken. But we surely need to pump in a lot of funds to keep it. Funds we don't have.

If the Minister of T&T can guarantee sufficient funds to fight the cultural war and provide defense and build infrastructure to sail the incense home; sure why not ?

It is baiting the Greeks and Egyptians to a lesser extent as we present a golden opportunity for them to attack, if they desire. It is a hard to defend outpost. A 2nd Mure, if you like.

In my opinion the advantages are higher than the problems we may have: investing money in this city is important. Let's do it now!

Just doing the math:

A fortified pike in a walled city on a hill has defense 8.

A fortified knight in a walled city on a hill has defense 8.

A fortified musketeer in a walled city on a hill has defense 12.

The best attackers currently avaialable are longbows and knights (4).

:goodjob:

Unlike Mure which is far closer to Babylon than to Deux Rivieres (distance of 9 compared to 22), Steal Incense will be almost equidistant to the two capitols - 11 to Athens and 12 to Deux Rivieres. It will therefore also be at far less risk of flipping.

I support the general idea of establishing an outpost across the waters, and for importation of incense. This is a difficult trade-off, because if we wait too long a new city will appear there and the chance will be gone, but we can't weaker our homeland excessively either.

... and we can name it Nouveau Mure. :D

Does Mure mean Mistake? (couldn't resist) :p

I support building the city. 3 or 4 units and a rushed temple are plenty to keep it from flipping.

It's already built.
