Stealth Fighter or Stealth Bomber?

I was wondering what is the Stealth Fighter good for?

It's not a Fighter plane, and can't shoot enemy planes down. So that means it's only good for bombing... and its bombing ability is 2x lower than Stealth Bomber's.

My conclusion is:
Stealth Fighters are useless, if you can build Stealth Bombers

For Interception: Jet Fighters
For Bombing: Stealth Bombers

edited: I recently discovered Stealth Fighters' huge recon range. They are amazing for recon missions.

I always send a Stealth Fighter first to recon the area. I have found that reconning gives my bombers a better chance of hitting the target. Maybe just superstition, but it works for me. I also use them to take out roads and improvements, where I wouldn't want to 'waste' a bomber turn on a road.

But again that means that Jet Fighters are MUCH better than Stealth Fighters.

During recon missions you can't be shot down so there is no use of stealth ability.

But half the cost, too. The only real difference between the two is differing bombard power for differing shield cost.

Catt's right. As in real life, the difference between the F117 and the B2 is the cost.
Opposed to normal bombers, the stealth fighter can perform precision strike I believe, but then you'd have to research smart weapons as well.

and the f15 does precision bombing if u play the americans.
there must be something besides the cost to intice one into buying stealth fighters...maybe if they get shot down in the first run they'll save a stealth bomber that follows...

I never build Stealth Fighters.

IMHO it's stupid to see those large bombers parked on a carrier deck. Never happens in reality. Okay, happened once but they did not return to the carrier.

Taking away the bomber's carrier capability would make the stealth fighter useful as the sea-borne stealth air element. I'll have to check the editor to see if that can be done.

I wouldn't ditch the stealth fighters so easily---unlike bombers, stealth fighters are better off against an interception. Also interception is rarer when u use SF,instead of a Jet.

I find the argument a little redundant. I use bombers and Jet Fighters mainly. The Bombers bomb the cities good enough for me, as I'm bigger on using battleships and ground artillery. Plus the Jet Fighters are worth their weight in gold for Interception.

Bombers on a carrier? No problemo. :D Parking 3 carriers full of regualr old bombers is a good way to desecrate ANY civ. I highly recommend it :)

Im with greenie on this one. I use mainly Jets and bombers. I play on small maps usually, just a preference. Which means everyone is usually pretty close. Theres nothing better than having 3-5 jets per coastal city.....swatting their bombers like gnats. And I can usually build regular bombers in very few turns per city, as compared to stealth.

Although, I do usually have at least 1 or two stealth bombers in a few cities on all my coasts/borders, just for the deep strike capability. If I have a close neighbor who is generally hostile, I may keep a stealth fighter or two around for recon....just to keep tabs on them.

No wonder most of u guys hate stealth fighters--but as i play usually on huge maps kicking-ass with the persians,I have found that carriers are key.Since I play usually play on monarch level, the persians and others are more advanced than me---and more than often I see enemy stealth bombers having a field day clearing my rail roads---and my jets do nothing about it.So I got the editor and increased the op range of Sfighter from 6 to 7.
Guess what I did to sink all the persian Carriers? I loaded couple of my transports with cruise missiles and the rest u know......
small maps-jetfighters+Sbombers
large maps-Sfighters+jets+Sbombers
Huge maps-Sbombers,Sbombers and Sbombers!

Attention brothers:

I finally found what Stealth Fighters are good for.

1) Ability to perform "Recon Mission"

2) "Recon Mission" has a HUGE range

3) "Recon Mission" gives +1 square LOS more than Jet Fighter's

Damn, 30 minutes late to the discussion.

Yes, if production is not important to you and you can crank out Stealth bombers like french fries, build Stealth Fighters for recon since they go farther than any Jet or F-15. Only 2-4 are really needed, unless you want a lot of recon (I tend to recon the frontlines only).

In the late game I find it useful to tranfer shields by building stealth bombers near capital and disbanding them for quick airports in my new highly corrupt frontline cities. Much cheaper than cash rushing that needed airport, etc.

greenie, what I meant was you'll never see B-52s or B-2s on the USS Nimitz in the news. In Civ you can put your bombers on carriers. Then again, Civ also misses out on the fact that a modern fighter can drop a lot more explosive power with much higher accuracy than any WW2 bomber could.
