Steam achievements broken?

I've noticed my Steam achievements don't work. I have 12 from early this year, then no more - including ones I've obviously got.

Not a big deal, just wondering what the deal is?

The main things which cause achievements not to count are (1) Steam being in offline mode, (2) having any mods activated, and (3) using the Tuner at any time during that game.

Some achievements require pop up event notifications to be active, but as you have not got any it is more likely to be one of the options MouseyPounds posted.

Mods. Don't play without Thal's Balance Mods, so that must be it. Bummer. Ah well, doesn't really change the game, so no worries.

I have lost two achievements yesterday. I won as Bismarck (got the pop up too; switched to Steam and there it was), then I found Eldorado (ditto). Then I saved my game, quit, quit Steam too, and did a system upgrade, re-booted. Started steam, and no German win, no Eldorado (it is clearly on my map, tho...). What else has it forgotten? The 100+ army I built in my German game? The tiles I buy? The mines I dig? The troops I train? Geeezzzz

EDIT: and no mods, always online, just plain vanilla

Are you sure it just has not fully updated your profile yet? I had that happen with an achievement once, I viewed it in game but it wasn't in my profile when I was checking it afterwards but reappeared before I checked again the next day.

EDIT: Not with Civ5, I don't actually remember which game it was, probably Team Fortress 2.

Both achievements appeared in a pop up, I also checked immediately in Steam after each and they were there under "most recent". But not in the list when I tried "View All Achievements". And now my "Most Recent" has backed up 3-4 days.

Okay, I have reopened the last autosave from my German game (thank god this version of Civ doesn't delete them from previous games) and re-acquired my victory. Hopefully, it also noticed the size the army .

Will _re-discover_ Eldorado from the initial autosave of my present game and be on my way. But it sucks none the less...

This happened to me. I recently got the game, and I noticed that the achievements were not all there when I finished the game. After reading this forum post I went back and the achievements were there. No instant gratification when I finish a game, but working for me none the less.

Something I notice is that achivements can be obtained by playing scenarios. For example, winning the New World scenario as Inca got me both the Macho Pichu and King of the Mountain achievement. I also got the russian one by winning a scenario of my own where I cheated by giving me gold in the map editor.

The only way I would ever be able to win the domination victory achievement and subsequent all condition achievement was 600 turns after winning a 500 turn timed victory.

Weird that Steam doesn't record achievements if you're using a mod when there's an achievement for, er.. using a mod (Experimenter). Apparently, I got that one for using Info Addict, but it didn't record my first win as Russia in the same game.

Firaxis decided that would cut down cheating for achievements. Achievements are disabled for mods in EUIII too afaik, although in Mount&Blade: Warband (Steam version) the achievements work in mods

I am playing G&K at the moment, and I have several achievements achieved, but never credited for.

I do not use mods, or the trainer. I am playing the game as I bought it from steam.

You could always try to get an achievement you should have been credited for with saves from my achievement thread.

Note though that 'win as x' achievements were bugged with the start of BNW until about last week where a hotfix for that was delivered. So if it was these kind of achievements you missed by now it should work again and it's not a general problem with your setup/steam.
