The first 3 games I tried on Civ 5 were all on map sizes large and huge. I wasn't able to finish any oif those games. All games i have played on map size Standard or smaller i have been able to complete. After the latest update I thought larger size maps would be playable, but apparently not. Right now I am too drunk to remember the specs on my computer, but it is well above ALL receommended specs for the game. Quad 4, 8 GB, 5770 HD 1 gb video card, blah blah blah... I really love this game, just wish i Could play large/huge maps. Anyone else STILL having this problem???

Sorry. The game freezes and/or crashes at end of turn. Usually happens at later stages of the game. Most recent game "ended" in the year 1935. After clicking end turn, game just shuts down. It is only happening on map sizes Large or Huge. I can finish every game on map sizes Standard and smaller.

Same thing here. Mine crashes after turn 566.
It's a wonderful feeling to play 566 turns of a game and not be able to complete the game.

gg

Me too friends. I always like to play huge territories and in this game i didn't finished even 1!!!!! I play usually huge territory, 12 civs, 22 city states and after 140-150 turns the game becomes to run very slow and after 220 - 240 turns it ....denies to continue (freeze). They didn' t fixed (patch) !!!!!
May be a 64 bit version?

I would suggest of you guys trying this it might help.

First thing you should try is to use steam to check the games files. This means it will check if there is corrupted file in the game and if there is it will download it again from the server. You can do this by opening steam go to the Library where you see your games left click Civilization V choose properties. There choose Local Files and then choose "Verify the integrity of game cache". Then it will check the files and download those again that doesn't pass validation.

If this doesn't help reintall might help to fix the problem like Kaygee stated in another topic.

I tried everything you posted above. Nothing worked!

I'm fairly certain it's a memory issue. Do any of you that have problems with large maps have more than 4GB RAM? I have 4, and my Standard-size game would start crashing in the second half on every single in-game reload. I can only imagine how much worse it is on even larger maps.

It's laughable that this game is supposed to have 2GB RAM as minimum spec... Is anybody out there actually able to run it with that?

I'm running XP 32-bit so even though I have 4gb installed, it only sees 3.3gb.

Whenever my physical memory usage is around 3.8-4.0 GB, the game becomes very unstable and will usually crash within a few turns. I haven't been able to beat any map above standard and my system is above the recommendations: Core i7 920, GTX 260, 6 GB RAM.

Its funny how my most anticipated game of 2011 is: Civ 5, patched so its at least release quality (probably 1.5)

I so looked forward to this game I went out and bought a new laptop!! dedicated to this game , I’m not a techy (i am a historian in his early forties and not very tech savvy but a big Civ fan)
Beyond the constant crashing (usually in 1907) which angers me to no end I thought these things were tested or were the reviewers playing on supercomputers? The inability regardless of the mode to have the Civs start in historically geographically accurate spots on an earth map - irrespective of which mod is being played. The annoyance of all that lovely steam --- finally no Austria!!. I can't help but think a colossal fraud has been perpetrated on the gaming public I know I shall think more than twice before laying down my had earned cash for Civ VI so should the rest of us !!!

I've finished games on standard pangaea and continents size with 2gb RAM and windows vista with chipset graphics so I don't know why you guys r struggling as my computer is BELOW the min spec. Having said that now - a month into playing it it has broken and wont let me load or start a new game even though it was working earier on the day that it broke (standard continents late industrial era- i closed the game down and haven't gotten it to work since)

Well, NONE of us finished a game over standard map (large or huge)(12 civs 22 city states). Of course it's a big bug of the game (may be the same in CIV III, before 129 f patch).
Some of us has the opinion that the problem is the workers (units generaly).
I played huge map, and when the game freezed, i killed all units (workers too). Well i had the same problems (5 min to pass to the next tun and after crash).
So, please, FIX IT TO THS NEXT PATCH. For 2 months we can't finish a game in large or huge terrotory!!!! HURRY!!!!

It's been suggested in another thread that having a large number of CSs may be causing late game crashes. Perhaps those of you with this problem could start new games either with no CSs or just a few. Please report back whether this helps. Thanks.

Never experienced a piece of crap like this in a major game release. 3 gigs of ram and 1 gig of graphics ram, and can't complete even a tiny map without crashing.

Steam is a lot of fun, too.

add me to this wonderful club. i've played two games of civ 5, both on huge maps, and both times the game crashed on the exact same turn: turn 217, year 1535. by "crashed" i mean my whole system seized up so that i could neither alt-tab back to the desktop nor even ctrl-alt-delete, and was forced to reset my computer. i tried wezqu's suggestion of having steam validate the files, and though it said there were two it needed to download again, when i tried to continue the game seized up as before.

i don't think it's a processing issue because there were substantially more civs & city-states in my second game than in my first, and it still crashed at exactly the same point. my system also meets or exceeds all the minimum requirements, notably having 4GB ram and a much better video card than recommended.

it's pretty bad i think when you're playing settings that are not mods but legitimate in-game settings and it can't even get halfway through 500 turns without failing.

I found on my system that turning down the texture video option allowed me to get a few more turns, like 10-20 or so.

I suspect the problem is related to how much of the world you have explored and that it's simply a question of you knowing more that what the game can handle. Going to low textures seem to help a little.

Recently started a Huge game and cannot finish. I am around 1930 and the crash occurs whenever I have a big move in the camera. I click a message (usually about losing influence with a CS) and the camera flies to show the area mentioned and gets about a screen away from the destination and freezes. The graphics on the freeze screen are not completely drawn.
