Stop rivals from vassalising your enemies.

Has anyone ever been good friends with a sorta weak civ who was in a huge war with 6 civs? Then that weakling asks to become your vassal? You accept and now you're at war with 6 out of the 9 other civs in the world?

I took Bismarck under my wing and Brennus, Ragnar, Alexander, Justinian, Wang Kon, and Ghandi declared on me. Brennus was Raggy's master and Alex was Justin's master. I had NO idea that would happen or I would have just declared on Bismarck. Especially since everyone but Wang was friendly or pleased with me.

This was chieftan and I was Roosevelt (it was my first game on BtS) so it was a piece of cake taking over half the world. Weird as it is, I got a cultural victory.

So, has the first situation ever happened to you?

In a normal game, not really. I never really get ASKED take vassals, i usually "persuade" my vassals through "non-peaceful ways"

But this does happen to me a lot in Rhyes and Fall of Civilizations. I usually end up with 2-3 voluntary vassals and always there is one that is at war with the entire freaking world. :crazyeye:

The suggestions in the lead are already used by me. Makes sense. The outside intervention is a gameplay bug IMHO so no responses to this feature can be "exploits". If the civ you're conquering has offers to be vassalised by another, you should not be immediately at war with them. :shake: If we absolutely have to have this AI cheat then at the very least the rival should demand you end the war first, and only then declare.

These agreements tie into bribes, a vassal state trade deal is essentially offered up for a DoW (considering spite from your target, which is the only way I could picture a human ever doing this). No AI will accept that if they wouldn't dogpile on you anyway, which is good incentive to mind diplo.

Now, the fact that they can violate treaties in this regard...forced, 10 turn deals...certainly does reek of a surprise AI cheat unfortunately.

Hello everyeone, I just getting back into this game after a 2 year break

the way the vassal thing works in this game is really annoying, I'm turning the allow vassal states thing off untill they change this, if they ever do... if not, look for a new game (not civ v)

is there a way to mod this or a mod out for this?

I don't think this will be patched out. As you noted, you just have to turn vassals off in the custom game screen. The best use of vassals is to wrap up a game, capping them one after another. Early in the game, they have to be considered carefully before you take them.

Some of the vassal things are annoying, true.
