Stormerne v. GenghisK

19. Ne6 Bd6
20. Nxg7+ Kd8
21. Bg5+ Kc8
22...

Better move on the side where there is more "protection". Ok, don't laugh, 2 pawns are better than nothing

19. Ne6 Bd6
20. Nxg7+ Kd8
21. Bg5+ Kc8
22. Rac1+ ...

My own move is entirely predictable I expect.

Perhaps I see it, perhaps I don't. We'll see.

I thought so. Well I'll just move one to defend the other. Anyway, it's your next move I'm really interested in.

Perhaps you expected me to do something else (taking your pawn) but well, I'm trying to do a desperate maneuver!

Desperate manoeuvres are rarely predictable! If you're attacking my poor little rook, I'll just move it up to keep my other one company

No. You're going for a back-rank mate.
Sorry, but it's too little too late!

I now announce mate in 8 moves!

How did I see all that? Well it's mostly experience, knowing that certainly configurations of pieces are usually unstoppable. I knew I ought to have a win once I had both rooks on the 6th rank, especially as you didn't have many defenders, and especially as I could get my knight and bishop into the attack easily too. Then it was just a case of working it out and plugging the holes. It is easier with "correspondence chess" - which this is - than "over-the-board chess", because you can get a board and experiment with moving round the pieces until you find a way that works. First you have to know the win is there though, otherwise all the working out effort is wasted!

Thank you for the game! And now you have nothing to distract from that wedding...
