Hey, I have had Civ2 more or less since it came out, but I never really started playing it, so I never improved much. Now I want to start for "real". :P Yea, I know it's very late, but it's such a cool game!!! :D

Now, do you have any good pages with strategies, starting strategies, mid-game, research, any kinds of strategies, to get me started for real. :P

Also some quick tips and similar would be greatly appreciated.

About my skill level, well, let's just say I sat speechless for about half an hour looking at the top score save game for Deity. :P

Wlecome SZS:)

Check out the threads in these forums, and also check out the War Academy for civ2 (either from main page, or from the Quick Links in the upper right corner).

Also, avoid looking at the high score of some people's games, that won't make you better at the game.:)

Remember when reading the strategy posts that most of the tips presented assume that you are playing at a high level of difficulty. Just as an example, Michealangelo's Chapel is a Wonder which drastically improves citizen happiness. On the hard levels, Mikes is generally received as the first or second most important Wonder. The Pyramids are a Wonder which makes your cities grow faster. On the high levels, where you often need to deliberately slow the growth of your cities because of happiness problems, the Pyramids are not really a blessing. But on the lower difficulties this relationship is reversed. Since your people are generally content, the Pyramids are great, all your cities grow faster. Mikes is much less important, since your people stay content for the most part.

Thanks for the replies so far. I'll archive them under useful tips. ;)

Now for La Fayette:

Once again, thanks. I'll browse around on the forums and read posts from now on.

SZS, CivIII and civII are two quite different games with different strategies. Most people have to unlearn the other game when they switch games. I'm not saying you shouldn't play civII. but you probably won't gain much from starting with civII in preparation for III.:(

I know this is elementary but try to keep a well balanced kingdom.
Keep a reasonable military. so on so on.

Welcome SirJosiah.

Do you mean balacned as in even? Or balanced as in flexible -- ie some defenders at the fringe and some offenders in reserve near the center of a small kingdom for quick response?

Or maybe some cities focused on trade, with Libraries and Market places, building only caravans. And then some shield producing cities pumping out military units, camels for use in wonders and of course, wonders themselves. (Except col, cop & Newts). I do something like this, with a massive trade city (i.e. the SSC) and couple good shield producers nearby, so the SSC can just produce trade (mostly stay on water spaces) and let the shield cities pump in camels when it is time to build a wonder. I used to (as in before I started to visit this site!) try to have every city do everything, and then wondered why I never had any $$$... because I had built every improvement in every city...DOH!
