Do you want to insert a html table directly into you text?

No, I just wanted to cut'n'paste a table out of Word. Can this be done?

Cheers,

OK! So, I did some more tests and found a consistant slight advantage to the defender. So, thinking my method flawed, I went back to basics and just had a regular Warrior versus a regular Warrior. No fortifying, non-veteran, un-modified grassland . 200 combats me attacking the AI, 200 combats the AI attacking me. The results:
Me vs AI 66 to 134 - ie: a 2 to 1 advantage to the defender.

AI vs Me 61 to 139 - ie: again a 2 to 1 advantage to the defender.

What’s going on here?
It is OK. The defender wins 9/8 of battles, the attacker wins 7/8 of them. (the defender has always an advantage: read <A HREF="http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=988">Info: Combat (GL)</A> thread <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif" border=0> )
i.e. wins are split in the ratio 9 : 7 and it causes a high probability that the defender will win all the combat.

Slow Thinker’s bonus to the stronger unit (which I have heard of but coudn’t find in the literature)
PS: Slow Thinker, the example I quoted for determining combat comes from the ToT rule book (Hey, I didn’t claim originallity! ).
Do you suspect we are deliberately being misled? Or am I justing getting more paranoid?
This is the literature: <A HREF="http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=988">Info: Combat (GL)</A> thread <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif" border=0>
There is written in the rule book of classic CivII that they won't bother us with particular details... We are not deliberately being misled, but liberated from complications <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif" border=0>
And errors are everywhere (books, civilopedia, War Academy...). The idea of "condensed" threads should solve it: errors are corrected continuously.

To be Fortified is not cumulative with fortress, only Fortress applies.

DOH! "Well I'll be a henpecked chicken in a hog patch!" I've only been playing for five years and this fact eluded me! Is it the same for fortifying behind City Walls?
Yes, but not for SAM and Coastal f.
Read <A HREF="http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=988">Info: Combat (GL)</A> thread! <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif" border=0>

You may attach a word file or transform the table from word to html and insert the html code into the post directly (but there will be a problem with end-of-line-markers. Find "A. As first post (or first two or more posts) of the thread" in "The Great Library: a hierarchical structure" thread for details}.

Edit:
See the debate between me and DaveV:
<A HREF="http://www.apolyton.net/forums/Forum1/HTML/001761.html">Modifiers for Attack/Defense</A>. It explains "the bonus" of stronger unit.

Slow Thinker -

Thanks for the tip - I read the GL:Combat thread. Very interesting, and new! I see the "Unified Terrain Theory" made it in there (3.3). <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif" border=0> I'd recommend it to anyone who is interested in the outcome of battles - particularly "evenly" matched opponents.

I downloaded DaveV's combat calculator. It suggests the probability of an attacking Warrior winning v another Warrior is 28.97%, and an attacking Horseman winning v a Phalanx as 39.11% - which would fit the results from my previous post.

The GL:Combat thread suggests that Partisans have up to a 10x bonus v non-combat units. I knew they were more than just pretty faces.<IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif" border=0> I still wouldn't build them.

Cheers,

Relegin Bor
