First I am a newbie to the site and want to thank all of you that have prepared such epic works on this site! Thanks for improving my game! I am working on Emperor.
Now to the question.
Situation...
I am playing emperor/pangea/60% as Persians democracy completely rr'd in the Ind. Age (researching RP 5 more turns). To start the game gems were the only resource within a reasonable distance of my capital !!!
So here's the dealio...
I am stuck between the other two powers left! Hittites are around but no factor. I may gift techs to get them caught up.
The French (NE) are polite with MPP (but want 575 g and 30gpt to get ROP). I've filled in settlers in their territory during the Dutch wars to get ivory and silks (we have GL in Amsterdam and Silkytown) but are now inside the French empire and far far away from home.
Lots of our Cav are there too....
Then there's the pesky Greeks (NW) who are furious after ending our ROP
(I'm convinced the AI is still bitter from a previous Monarch game or something!). I've filled settlers in gaps as well to get saltpeter, wine and coal which are in the middle of their (ex Sumerian) empire. These cities are very close to home and all but three Greek cities are in between us and the resource cities.
The French and Greeks are Sci Meth and some non required techs ahead. I think I paid too much gpt at one point and it killed my tech research for 20.
Overall things are pretty close except militarily they are both stronger (I have lots of cannons and Cav) but they both have inf.
The Greeks have virtually their whole military in the NE right now (I saw every one of them crossing MY rails!) The Dutch were just dogpiled and eliminated by all of us...The Greeks are now right next to the French with a few cities.
So the question is....
Do I induce the Greeks into something here with their military and the French right there? Can I do it in Democracy? Is there a better victory solution? Keep keepin' on? Thoughts?
I'm at a crossroads.
