stuck on high res cant play it

please help , got a new monitor cranked it up to top res and now it wont start. It just flickers and fails. Is there a way to alter the res options outside the game?? as i cant get in to the game to do it. PLEASE HELP

What doesn't start? The game?

You can use the CivilizationIV.ini

look for this:

; Custom Screen Height, minimum: 768 - Normal resolutions can be set in-game and will be used when set to 0
ScreenHeight = 0

; Custom Screen Width, minimum: 1024 - Normal resolutions can be set in-game and will be used when set to 0
ScreenWidth = 0

thanks for the reply but i tried that, it says it is set to 1960 res and crashes.
