Sucession Game #1: Free glocks for all! Spartania Forever!

How many turns are people supposed to be playing? I played 16...

15-20 turns per player....

I'm gonna play the next turn. Sukenis, if you happen to pop by and think you'll be able to play it this time, let us know :) Otherwise, dreadhead, you're on deck.

...and the X Hippo Speeders roared into action...

Part one of the Epic Trilogy...Believer Wars

Oh yeah, they're all over the place. University base falls, zoloto gold falls, as the fanatics continue sweeping north towards my buddy Yang. Hippo, chowing on a Xeno-Bar in Sparta Command, offers and exclusive interview:

Zip Zapper, Spartan Colonist: Hippo, haven't you been saying your prayers lately?

Hippo: No way!

Bam Whammo, Gunman Weekly: Hippo, we've heard rumours of an economic punishment being placed upon the Spartan nation as a result of some despicable base obliteration.

Hippo: Damn rights! They were trying to institute prayers in public schools  So our loyal Kitten Volunteers wrecked up the place. Three places, to be exact. They no longer have a foothold on the coastline.

Shooter Sammy, Military Gazette: Sounds good. How is our diplomatic situation otherwise?

Hippo: Well, I told Morgan where he could shove his ill-gotten energy tokens, and he promised to vote for me. Naturally, I'm now Planetary Governor, and we're introducing some radical new gun laws. I think it'll stimulate the economy.

Moderator: Well that's all for now. Hippo needs to go talk some strategy with the colonel. We'll be back, live, in a short while. :)

Part two of my epic trilogy...The Fanatic Strikes Back!

And how! A secret conversation between Major Hippo and Colonel Santiago was leaked just moments ago!

Hippo: They're %$*#ing everywhere! We land our noble Kitten Volunteers, mash up their coastal bases, the works, and then on their turn, I see 20 gatling infantry units slide up next to our new bases! We've had to obliterate yet another base because their units just keep surrounding us!

Santiago: Hippo, you dolt. Attack them! Our Elite units will surely pancake their Greenies.

Hippo: But there's like 20 of them! Even with collateral They'd massacre us next turn.

Santiago: Well I'm getting a lot of flak from the Planetary Council regarding your shameless culling of the believing citizens!

Hippo: Are we or are we not in charge of the Planetary council now?

Santiago: Well yes, but...

Hippo: And in a few more MY's, we can repeal the UN Charter! She's got her armies, but we've hit them badly with only minmal loss of life for our troops. We've got Hippo X Speeders launching from the West Coast of our homeland, ready to take them on from that angle.

Santiago: Well, she's making quite a scene at meetings....

Hippo: Doing what? Handing out Bibles? !lol!

When I continued beyond the year 2196 (I by no means expect to be sent a later version, as I already played fifty turns) , I attacked the Gaians and Peacekeepers concurrently; I landed to obliterate a newly founded PK base, and by 2010, I had vanquished the residual Gaian forces while siezing UN Information Agency, which was defended with a single unit. Not by any means difficult, but I incurred a few losses, unlike Kitten..

It appears that in the Succession Game, either the two transport foils in service were moved north to come under attack by a Gaian Isle of the Deep or Skimship, or their home base was sacked before the naval forces could act and something indigenous attacked. Either way, I was elated to find that the PKs were destroyed despite this.

The University is ill-equipped to handle an attack of any sort, though their bases are loaded with Gattling Infantry (5-3-1). The same is true for the Believers, though they are larger; worlds larger. Anyhow, through serendipity, I was able to attack first at their peninsular headquarters, at... oh, never mind.
---

Great work, Hippo! With only one more conquest, you, Dreadhead and the others can fulfill the Spartan Manifest Destiny! In the end, though I had conquered all other factions, the Spartan continent was still very barren, with no city larger than five. You are much better at empire upkeep than I ever will be…

BTW, what is part III?

Ah yes...part three.

Return of the Hippo

Gunnin Gavin, Ironholm Sun: Hippo, what EXACTLY is going on right now? There's almost no word from those on the frontlines and I'm getting concerned that you've decided to go pacifist.

Hippo: Have that man shot...BANG!...But anyway, he's full of crap. I can't say too much, only that incoming Major Dreadhead will have plenty of little toys to play with when she takes the helm. We've got hoardes of elite troops prepareing to board transports on the Eastern Ports near UN Headquarters, but we really need to kick our Scientists into gear and get neural grafting so that we can have both X and Trained in the same unit.

Blastin' Billy Bob, Artillery Monthly: So what are our thinkers up to now?

Hippo: Doctrine, Air Power is the name. Utter destruction through long range assaults of our enemies is the game. We'll get our aerospace complexes in order, then fly over the straight to strike on Believing territory before our Elite Speeders Move in too take territory and Obliterate threatened bases.

Gemby Grenade, Heros Waypoint Weekly: What advice can you offer the incoming regiment?

ippo: Lots. Firstly, we must strive to improve the quality of our interior empire. Energy banks, tree farms, the works. Secondly, we need colony pods and rapid expansion over former Peacekeeping Territory so that we have the base number to launch a meaningful attack on the East. Thirdly, let's strike hard and efficiently so that the Believers are out of our hair while we focus internally.

Shotgun Scotty, Milita Herald: When can loyal Spartanian's download a copy of our current Emperial situation?

Hippo: Soon. It's dinner time, so gimme a break eh? Bon appetit!:king:

Are the kitten volunteers still in action?

Kitten volunteers...a vicious, yowling, clawing gang of missile launcher toting maniacs in plasma steel armour.

I'll have it up as soon as I get the laptop up and running. Tonight, maybe an hour or so. :)

Epilogue

Well, the second reign of Major Hippo has come to a close. In his epic memoirs, soon to be published, he speaks of many things, but seems focused on the future demise of the Believing Faction. "They have forfeited their right to exist," he declares. "Their fanatical and systematic torture of our captured soldiers shall not go unpunished!"

He also speaks of Spartanian accomplishments over the course of his storied career. The Citizens Defense Force, the seizure of 6 Believing bases, and the development of the Hippo X Speeder, which has cost the SPartans some 80 years of economic sanctions!

But the economy stands at 48 Credits per turn, with 11 turns between techs, certainly respectable for such a warmongering people, but more imortantly a massive improvement over what is was in previous years. Undoubtly the Empire-building Corporal Dread will fix up the domestic situation.

He cites a cease-fire with the Hive as his greatest diplomatic accomplishment, giving up nothing but a harsh warning as to what would happen should Yang choose to reject the offer. He also mourns the end of the University Faction, and vows revenge upon the Fanatics responsible!

:king:

I was going to post the game here, but it seems my stuffing job is not adequate, so I shall be mailing the game to dread rather than posting it :( Sorry. Hopefully she can put it up for all to see.

Got it, Hippo. I'm going to upload your game for all to see...I think it was successful. Now, give me until this evening to do my part for glorious Spartania.:)

Whew, I finished that! I must say that it was exhausting, but fun. A little hint/spoiler: I did my first atrocity ever, but it had to be done. I have to convert my chicken scatch to a legible log, so, give me 'til tomorrow, and I'll upload the game, and tell you all about it. Btw, who does it go to next?

Viva Spartania—2244-2266

Dread studied the logs at Sparta Command, and frowned. “I was having too much fun with my mind worms,” she mused. “That’s why the Colonel sent me back here.” She thought back to Vice-Colonel Hippo’s pep talk, full of admonitions and reassurances. “Don’t worry,” he’d said. “You’ve got some of my troops AND the Kitten Volunteers to help out.” She suddenly stood up, slammed the log shut, and threw it on the desk. “Ya study long, ya study wrong,” she thought. Time to get moving…

2244—Rushed production of Plasma troops in Coming of the Lord. Now, they’ll build Recycling Tanks to gain some extra resources. UN Headquarters has built the first Hippo X Speeder, which is being transported to Coming of the Lord to aid in the battle. The Mayor of Sparta Command has decided to start construction of a sea colony pod so that a base can be established in the Geothermal Shallows. Hive Launch is now building a colony pad. Scouts and brood trainers have discovered some ruins, and within them, a perfect site for a base. Meanwhile, Dread has ordered that farms, forests, and solar collectors be built, as cash is needed.

2245—War is Hell! The fighting around Coming of the Lord is fierce—several valiant Kitten Volunteers have died in combat, and probe teams keep infiltrating the datalinks. After a brief, yet emotional memorial service, the troops rush back into battle, vowing to avenge the Kitties. “Miriam will pay for this,” is the silent promise on everyone’s lips. Meanwhile, since the base has been having Drone riots, Dread asks the Mayor to order construction of a Recreation Commons. “Rush it”, she adds.

2246—Centurion Cave built a sea colony pod, which went out exploring the seas, looking for a suitable place for a base. There were some pods nearby, which yielded 150 energy credits, and another, which yielded enough energy to build the Energy Bank at Ciudadela Altea. The rec. commons at Coming of the Lord has been built, and the fighting continues.

2247—Another pod discovery yields enough energy for Hommel’s Citadel to build its Energy Bank. There is still fighting near Coming of the Lord, Revelation Base, and Great Conclave. More Kitten Volunteers and Hippo X Rovers have arrived to lend support. Meanwhile, Dread has ordered that rec. commons, Children’s Crèches, Network Nodes, and Recycling Tanks be built in various bases. Some have been rushed. Infrastructure is vitally important. Meanwhile, the first sea base, Fleet Anchorage, has been founded in the Freshwater Sea.

2248—Mind Worms have been captured near Hero’s Waypoint, South. The fighting continues, with some battles lost, and some won. Meanwhile, Spartan scientists have discovered Air Power, and Dread immediately sets to building a Missile Penetrator at Coming of the Lord, and several other bases have begun construction of Missile Tacticals. This will surely mean the end for Miriam.

2249—A transport has discovered a pod containing 200 energy credits, while another transport has found an Alien Artifact. It has been sent to UN Headquarters, which has an unlinked Network Node that it can be hooked to.

2250-2252—The fighting continues…

2253—The glorious Spartans have built their first air unit! Indeed, Colonel Santiago has been named Mother of the Spartan Air Corps. Dread immediately begins an attack on Great Conclave, and Revelation base.

2254-2255—Several bases have completed both Missile Penetrators and Missile Tacticals. These are being sent to Coming of the Lord. Meanwhile, the colony pod is ready at Hive Launch, and has been sent, along with a worm escort towards the Ruins.

2256—Morgan has appeared on the Live Link, which is broadcast live to all Spartania. He has asked that we join him in battle against the Hive. Dread gladly declines. “We have enough on our hands now,” she says. Then, Morgan demanded our files on Air Power. “Not happening, Uncle,” snapped Dread. Morgan is so angry that he declares vendetta. “Let him,” said Dread. “If he has sense, he’ll leave us alone.” “If not, he’ll feel my wrath, and he, and that hag, Miriam can compare notes.”

2257—More air power and other troops are on their way to Coming of the Lord.

2258—Revelation Base is destroyed! One for the Kitties!

2259—The troops are on the way to the battle at Coming of the Lord.

2260—More Kitten Volunteers arrive at Coming of the Lord. They are really stoked because of the victory at Revelation Base.

2261—What sweet justice! The Kitties have taken Great Conclave, the bane of Spartan existence. Meanwhile, air units have begun arriving at Coming of the Lord. These enthusiastically join the battle.

2262—A new base, Fort Superiority, has been founded in the middle of The Ruins. After a brief celebration, and a moment of silence for the war dead, the citizens set about securing the base.

2263—Miriam has convened the Council. She wants the UN Charter repealed. The Spartans vote yes, and for the first time, are allowed to use the full force of the Hippo X Rovers.

2264—Forces are amassed near Great Zion.

2265—Woe to Miriam. Great Zion has been destroyed!

2266—Retirement—oh what a joy! It’s been totally exhausting, with lots of death and destruction, but with major victories as well. As Dread packs her things to return to her mind worm labs, she wonders what will happen next. Luckily, Morgan hadn’t bothered with her, but she was sure that the next commander, after finishing off Miriam, would turn their eye towards the North, and Morgie would be sorry…

  The peacemonger tastes blood!

Sounds good. I'll have to download it and inspect the fruit of our collective labour after school, but I can't see anything to complain about. We'll have to hit Morgan hard from the air, and STACK UNITS THAT LAND near his bases to overcome his mind-control abilities.

Viva Spartania!

...great job with the kitties Dread...you use them like a pro! :D

If no-one takes up the game like they should then I will step in...keep the game moving is the key to successful succession games.
