I think one of the most important changes this game needs in useable Helicopters. I mean come on they can drop off but cant pick things up????? What is that about? :hmm:   I almost never use them unless I’m winning and have cash to burn. Otherwise I stick to paratroops same thing less cost.

Fraxis PEASE make helicopters useable (if you can hear me).

Most importantly make them able to pick things up, like the real ones, it is what makes them special on the battle field.

It seems to me we completly agree? So why are you keeping pestering me, requesting change I already suggest ;) ?

Ok, my suggestion is not that you haven't already improved the tank, compared to infantry.

What I'm suggesting is, your TANK needs to be BETTER than it is now. :)

Its defense should be about 40-50% higher (at least) than Infantry, and its attack at least 50% higher as well (at least the regular Infantry, by the time Mech Inf. comes around, Tanks wouldn't have as much of an attack advantage).

Agreed... what were they thinking at the time (snicker... the same thing as when they made it at all possible for the tank units to be destroyed by spearmen... snicker snicker)

Did you check the Excel spreadsheet with my units list? The one I posted in this thread a page above?

WWI: Tank : 30/20/1, Infantry : 20/15/1

WWII: Armor: 40/30/2, Heavy armor : 50/40/2, Light armor : 20/15/3, Infantry: 30/20/1.

Modern: MBT: 60/50/3, LAV: 30/20/3, Infantry: 40/30/1, Mech infantry: 50/40/3.

What stats would you suggest?

I don't have Excel on my computer...

I disagree with the Light Armor being so low.

Tank should be considerably lower than Light Armor (boost Light Armor, and the other Armors). Infantry seems about right though for WWII.

I'd substitute Light Armor for Armor, Armor for Heavy armor, then create a new Heavy Armor of 60/45/2 (armor on these tanks wasn't much higher than a medium tank in most instances).

MBT would be increased accordingly.

I don't see Mech Infantry being any stronger than Infantry, just more mobile. Values inbetween the two might be good. (45/35 for both)

What is LAV?

Mech infantry should be a bit better than Infantry : a bradley has more firepower than a guy with a M16.

LAV = Light Armored Vehicle, it's an upgrade of light armor.

However, I consider removing the light armor, it doesn't bring much, and use it either as tank, either as mech.

So the line would be
Tank (FT17, MvIV, AV7, T26)
Armor (Panzer, B1, Sherman, etc)
Heavy armor (Pershing, Tiger, IS3)
Modern armor (M60, T55)
MBT (M1 abrams, T90, etc.

Steph is right on the Mech Infantry needin to be stronger than normal infantry.... for instance a bradley (US APC for those of u who dont know wut that is) has TOW missiles and can actually take out a tank with them (and not just on an off chance either... many Iraqi casualties in Desert Storm were from those) plus a bradley has machine guns mounted on it for support... Thus not only should it be able to move farther but it should pack a punch strong enough to take out ALL the various types of tank units in an attack and it should be strong enough also to have a chance of defending against the tank types fairly regularly

Alright, I take back then my comments that Mech Infantry shouldn't be stronger.

50/40 and 40/30 sounds right then.

Removing Light Armor probably would be a good idea. :)

interesting... very interesting...

Thank you for the screenshots of your unit list, Steph.
I have just scrapped my old (personal) mod. and is
working with a new (DYP-variant).
This unit list gave inspiration and I will make my own
in Excel.

Could you make helicopters able to pick up units in the field by increasing their movement?

Well I have tried all kinds of things to make them be able to pick things up, while still allowing the AI to use them. All of my attemps lead to the AI not useing them (not that they use them anyway). The helicopter can be set so that the human players can use them to pick up troops but the AI dose not understand land transports. O well.

All Civ 3 needs is a pick up button for the Helicopter and all would be well.
