Suggestion: Adepts and Disciples shouldnt be able to Wane.

The option should be there for mages, but altar puffed disciples and mass produced adepts seem like an exploit to me, and don't fit the concept anyways. Mages you pay gold to upgrade to I could see.
 
I bumped the level required to Wane up to 8 (or maybe it was 9) for disciple and adept -types.
 
That's excessive. Really it's just when you can mass produce shades for next to nothing that they become silly. You'd rapidly go completely broke if you had to upgrade those adepts to Mage first.
 
Turning more of them into merchants would probably help, though :P

I don't know about that. I upgraded all of my adept units and had no money problems. This is especially true once they start to mature. Once you settle 10 or so Great Sages, you can run your economy slider much lower to produce more gold. You can also settle Great Merchants to get the bonus gold AND the bonus food. This gives you gold to upgrade more Adepts and food to grow your city even larger. Personally, I use a combination of the two.
