Suggestion: Constellations as an option

These things are driving me crazy. I hate the new event system because every turn there are two of the stupid constellations and none of the other events seem to ever occur. Why couldn't they be disabled with a checkbox at the start of game? I almost want to revert to .31 just so I can have different events.

My complaint is that so many of them don't apply to me and most of the rest are just pointless. Why should I care that it's a good time to get married?

Perhaps if the constellations implemented in the same fashion as they were in the "Gods of Old" mod: they occurred every turn and independently of the random event system. This way they won't interfere with other, more interesting events.

On a side note on .32 events. How common are mushrooms in your games? I'm playing my first .32 game, and while I only have one mushroom patch, the AI civs usually have two at least. There's more mushrooms on this map than in that silly "Badger Badger Mushroom" video! Is this typical or is the random number generator being a little quirky?

I love the constellations and their idea, but they should be switched to occur every 5 or 10 turns with some clear effects.
But whatever the solution, just don't remove them completely!!! Keep them in.

I haven't found the constellations to do freaking anything. Haven't noticed a single actual effect, just constant text and endless updates every two turns.

Makes sense for them to be changing often, I mean, that's kind of how astrology works... and also makes sense for them to only have subtle differences... but they're so relentless, takes up a lot of space, etc.

How about making them something that doesn't normally display automatically? Maybe have an Astrology icon you can click/hover over if you're curious what the stars are saying? Or maybe an option where they still happen, but don't display as events? Like, so you can choose whether to see them all the time or not.

Constellations have some effect, mainly an annoying one though. I frequently play with Living World turned on to experience more events [after all, its one of the nice RP aspects to FfH]. Since .32 all it's meant is that every other turn I'm spammed with a message on so-and-so rising. Vote for making it optional or not event related.

edit: WCH: Right now, two of them change terrain to hot/cold versions [ie Ice to Tundra]. Another one will get rid of the disease promotion.

I also find them quite annoying, the're like 90% of events that happen to me and I am still to see a single one that has any efect on me.
I agree with A Hamster's idea of constellations independent from events. They could be triggered every set number of turns or changed with % chance per turn (like insane trait after patch d). And they should be possible to turn on/off.

I would be fine with Constellations, if they ever applied to me. As it is, they need to either add way more options or disable them in the early game because there is no way Esus could be founded on turn 10. Personally, I am all for the abillity to disable constellation events.

How about only enabling the constellation events for players who discovered astronomy? if your going to have a tech with the name astronomy, you might as well have astronomic related things in it.

I agree that constellations should be made separate from the event system and instead change every few turns. I would make them have passive effects and have a star chart that, instead of having a set order, would have 4 possible constellations that could haven next. With mysticism you would be allowed to know what constellation was in effect, and with astronomy you could see the 4 possible constellations that could occur next. If you controlled the celestial compass, you could choose one of the constellations and make it unable to be the next constellation.

Oooh now that's a good idea! I second it :)

Also it would be an idea to tie these constellations in with the speed of the game, with a change occuring over a longer interval on slower speeds!
