Suikoden Series

Konami did jsut come out with Suikoden IV at about the middle of January. They are having a big promotion contest on their site just for this game.

Whoa, triple post there.

I've heard a lot of good things about Suikoden, especially II. Although it seems IV was a bit of a letdown. Never played the games myself, so this is all hearsay.

All right folks let me contribute something usefull.

I have both Suikoden III and the new Suikoden IV. They are both great games in my opinion. Many fans of the original Suikoden series were disappointed with both III and IV but as a new comer to this series dare I say they don't know what they're talking about.

If you can find Suikoden III I'd recommend it if you're into RPG's. It tells the tale from 3 different perspectives, i.e. you get to play the role of three different heroes at different points in the game. It's a great adventure IMO. The battle system is controversial according to the original fans but I think it's ok.

Now Suikoden IV takes place in a large ocean world dotted with hundreds of island nations. Your character is framed for something he didn't do and is banished from his home. Again die hard Suikoden fans didn't really receive this one well either but I'm enjoying it.

Suikoden I takes place in the Scarlet Moon Empire where you are the son of one its generals. Court intrigue forces you to live as a wanted man where you eventually join up with the liberation army to take down the corrupt Scarlet Moon Empire.

Suikoden II is by far the best of the series. It is set in and around the City-States of Jowston (just north of the Scarlet Moon Empire) and takes place 3 years after the first one. This time around you are a young boy who has to flee form his homeland of Highand because of the terrible Luca Blight and his desire for war. You eventually gather an army to take on Highland.

Oh yea. The series is loosely based off of the 14th century Chinese epic called "The Water Margin". All of the games have 108 characters that you have to recruit because they are key people that influence the flow of history and are known as the 108 Stars of Destiny. The series is pretty unique because all of the games relate to eachother and form a sort of history that you can follow.
