I know that a lot of people have been worried about the "simplify" theme of Civ4. Does anyone own Supreme Ruler 2010? I got the demo of it and my God, that game is the opposite of simple. It's like Moo3 on crack, and just as much unfun. Does anyone own SR2010 and actually like it?

After playing the demo of SR2010, which has all the historical and detailed crap that the grognards root for, I don't see simplicity as a bad thing anymore. Why do games that seem to be our dream come true (moo3, SR2010) always end up sucking?

I downloaded the demo after reading your post, and you are right: I still have no idea what is going on in that game.

As I have always been interested in economics simulations, SR2010's special featue--a complex economic model--intrigued me, but the problem is that they don't explain it! So everything seems random. And for a game of SR2010's complexity, there is NO way anyone can figure everything out just from intuition, so the result is a game that frustrates everyone because of its mysteriously complicated game engine.

That said, however, I think a game like SR2010 would really be a "dream come true" if it did not require learning so many rules or micromanaging so many details.

"Simplfy" is fine, but best when it doesn't erase the details. Too simple makes the fans cry "more realism".
