ive managed to aquire a copy of the manuel for the psx version of civ2, and ive just read something that surely has to be incorrect?

"Most improvements don't disappear over time, but they can be vulnerable to capture, FIRE, and sabotage."

fire??? can this happen?

are you sure its Civ2 and not Civ1? Civ 1 will have events like 'fire sweeps through the city, citizens demand an aquaduct!'

Alternatively, maybe its worded poorly - if your city is fired upon by an enemy unit, and your defender loses, an improvement may be destroyed.

it's definitly the civ2 manuel, (civ1 never appeared on the psx)

in the manuel it's worded exactly how i typed it.

it may just be a mix up (on the publishers part) between the civ1 and civ2 manuel.
im now aware that it is possible in civ1, so i think its probably just a mix up...

So far as I know, there's no random events in Civ II. Unless they changed it slightly for the PS.

Yup. There are no random events in the PC version of Civ2. And your city won't lose an improvement if one of its defender loses a battle. Improvements are only lost when your city is captured by another civ.

ah, must be thinking about when i investigate a city before attacking it, and then after conquering it, the number of structures is often much fewer

Right. You almost always lose structures when you capture a city. There is an old thread (at Poly maybe) about the structure loss when taking a city. IIRC, its either the happiness stuff, or aquaduct & sewer system. Total losses depend on what the city has built.

Unless you liberate or subvert a city, Temples, Cathedrals and Courthouses are always destroyed, plus some other improvements.

That happens in Civ3 too. Looks like I can learn more about Civ3 by playing Civ2.
