Svartalfar Mod

It occurs to me.

What happens, when youre finished with ICE? And its all patched up - and as pretty and functional and wonderful as can be?

What will people look forward to? Half the love of the game for many, I suspect, is anticipation of constantly new content. Constantly changing and improving and flowing content.

One word, Scenarios. And Scenarios. And some scenarios. Its hard making scenarios to a constantly updating game, but to a stable one its easier.

Also, mod mods. Like this one, and Maniac's one.

And Total Conversation/Total Conversion mod mods, like my cIVRPG(project name), which is based on this mod realm/lore as well as some of it's excellent features.

What? FFH3!!! :D

With quests based on an imported engine from Oblivion/Morrowind, stack battles either real time as Warhammer2: Dark Omenwith or turn based like hmmm, HoM&M(?), 3 level maps and many many more :)

Ambition. I -like- it!

I wonder if my threadjacking is a karmic crime I will pay for later.

Hmm.. Perhaps I already have.

Surefire Modmod 0.22g1

Includes the Dark Elves except the mounted line til i figure out what I want to do with them. Also included Lanun coastal cottages and fishing anywhere improvements. Custom Leader for Faeryl to Phi/Rai because I'm about to play heh.

This is not a full version, I'll likely do such for patch H when it comes out, this is just a stopover because I wanted to play Svartalfar now heh.

Uhm. Whats the problem with the mounted line?

So, and now you can go for h. :D

well, i made mine before the nyxkin came, so haven't quite worked out them, plus the nyxkin are replacements for horse archers, but they have swords.. so to me they seem like they should be a melee type of mounted unit, maybe even like centaurs, but really haven't figured it out yet heh

Surefire Modmod 0.22h1
just an update for patch H, and a few things like removed the team GP threshold increase, switched hunter and rangers animals to baby spiders

For all races or only for the Svartalfar?

Yeah, its somehow strange - a "archer" without a "bow".

btw. why the change of Faeryl to Phi/Rai?

just the Svartalfar

yeah

and because she likes those traits for Faeryl. Well, my assumption anyway. ;)

Won't that make it difficult to fill the carnivals?

not quite sure what you mean, just changed the animals that are with svartalfar hunters and rangers to the appearance of baby spiders as opposed to wolves and panthers.

just for svartalfar.

sorry, what do you mean about archers and bows? heh

the traits is because ive done nothing to make the hidden trait viable, but i wanted to make the svartalfar viable.
Maniac's version that makes all units invisible inside their own territory worried me some because keeping improvements defended seems impossible in that (usually always easier to defend then it is to attack due to terrain defense), though it seems neat.
Vehem's version that unreveals map terrain is closer to what the hidden trait is supposed to do, but seems like it does nothing in practicality because the AI seems to know anytime you empty a city (AI scouts will beeline for an empty city when they can't even see it). it would certainly have some affect on human players, but one thats easily countered by religions or even just remembering what is where. the greatest bonus from it i can think of is that it could hide a resource before someone found the tech to reveal it.. so like if someone saw terrain that had an unrevealed copper on it that a svartalfar built a city on before it was revealed to them, then the map was unrevealed before they got mining, then they wouldnt know the svartalfar had copper in their borders or where to pillage it.
the intended implementation, as i perceive it from the statement "Lands are always covered by the fog of war to other civs", is more powerful and on par with real traits. even with religion in their cities you wouldnt be able to see into hidden lands, and unit line of sight wouldnt work and you'd basically be moving blindly, only seeing the terrain you're on.
so im still waiting on hidden trait. a combined version of vehems and maniacs might be neat, myself i haven't thought of anything for it that would be close to what seems to be intended, nor do i know an easy way of doing what is intended.

Thanks for the .22 version Sureshot.
I am playing my first game as the Svartalfar right now heh
Nice Job :goodjob:

I took this to mean the moving back of Hunters in the tech tree. And now they come one short tech away from Rangers. In my game Orthus spawned next to me and I had two Hill Giants and some Lizardmen delaying my expansion. The Warriors just couldn't cut it. Eventually it was Archer of the Leaves who cleared the way for my settlements.

ah, well you can get Subdue Animal on scouts too, so filling carnivals with wolves, lions, baby spiders, and panthers is fairly simple, tigers and gorillas are possible, and bears and giants spiders are harder, but still possible.

a key thing to note tho, theres a definitive reason to build archer of leaves and normal archers now. before hunters were much easier to make sooner and made archers generally less of an intelligent plan except in specific circumstances. so i like the general effect.

Sorry it must have been me, I took it to read that you'd get captured spiders instead of capturing the orginal animal.

For me are scouts to weak against spiders or bears - so I did have hunters switched back to hunting, again. ;)

Nyxkin is a replacement for a horse archer, but it didnt have a bow or another ranged weapon in use. It use a sword - this is what I think is strange.

Indeed, though you must get some serious experience before taking on the likes of the Gorillas, Bears and Spiders with a 1 Str +100% animals unit. Even Lion Prides took like four carefully acquired levels before I could take them down with confidence. But it was Orthus and the Hill Giants that was my biggest trouble. Lucky for me I raced to Writing and then FOL so I could wage a war of attritition on the Giants and Lizards with FOL Archers. Was fun and differant.. no complaints at all. And definatly no complaints about your ModMod!

I was very happy to see this! Recon used to rule supreme and I never really needed Archers. In this circumstance of being inundated by Orthus, Lizards and what turned out to be Four Hill Giants was interesting. In the past I'd just go Recon and deal with them. But for once in all my games I did use early Archers. First FOL Archers and then some SureShots. This mighta been the first time I've ever had the need to use early Archers. And sure as shootin if I had not fielded an army of them Ida been lost when two Civs declared war on me. It was nice to use Archers for a change!

Some game Details...
Spoiler :
Since I was stunted at early growth and had beelined to Writing for the Academy I went then after FOL, ROK, OO, and then the Order before I ever settled my second city. I needed the mining for a settlement Gold and the Fishing for a desert settlement near Incense so what the heck. I'd already gone after FOL so why not the Order as well and deny my opponents all religions cept for AC and CD and and have the four holy cities in one city to make more potent my Bazaar? It was the Archers that allowed this and Orthus and the Giants whom initiated it. It was so quick to research the religions and I needed all the techs even Fishing (nice improvement btw) and with Philo I set up to get a Bard and then three Prophets very quickly.

I had used the FOL Archers to overwhelm Orthus and the Giants. Lost many but the few survivors had high experiance. Then just as I was nearing the end of my settlements (6 of them on Standard Oasis Map). Two Civs declared War on me. And Sure as Shootin the Archers and SureShots got their usage big time. Was nuts for a time. I lost my Iron city and got it back. Then lost my Orthus Axe in the city city and got both back but the city was auto-razed due to size. Then I retreated back and the Priests of Leaves were my muscle as I then went and trained NightFoots to rapidly upgade to NightClaws with all my extra dough from the religions. I also trained two early NightBringers but they didnt get the Channeling 1 promotions even though I had at that time 3 of 4 early religion holy cities (various mana). But I used them to defend on hills forest against a few Lions and then eventually upgraded them to NightSparks and then lethal NightMakers with Fire.

Now the Civs want peace but I'm not done with them yet. I now have three NightMakers for blasting city defense and a couple in training for my home defense. Now I train NightBlades to rapidly upgrade to NightStars with Copper weapons. Soon Iron will be mine again. And due to the war I've adopted OO and am begining to field some Lunatics and Priests. Didn't want to do this yet until all my forests grew ancient. But those blastards forced me to it. Will then revert to Order to go Good and then settle back on OO so I will be Neutral and can train Druids and Saverous and Hemah. With my five cities with four religions each paying my way, and with the FOL ancient forest cottages feeding my cities and research.... those who messed with me are in serious trouble. And the others will rue the day they meet the Dark Elves.
Now they are ahead in tech slightly but all their base will be mine. Muahahahahaha.

I like your mod very much SureShot. And although I'm just barely in my first game, I do like the fact that Archers have come into play. It was rough at first especially as I couldn't go my normal route of upgrading scouts to hunters to eventually rangers as quick as normal. But this may be a very good thing. Recon basically took over the early game. But in your Modmod Archers actually have some justification. Hehe and your unit sound effects and everything else is just very very cool. I like it alot thus far. Thank You!!!

ya, thats why im thinking of doing the melee horse line and the archer horse line, the nyxkin model can be used as a base for the melee horse line. not quite sure how i want to do it yet tho.

you can get lucky with a level 2 scout on a forest hill against bears and spiders sometimes too, but a well experienced scout can manage such easier :p

glad you like the fishing things, try the lanun for their coastal cottages too for even more water improvement fun

if i make a more detailed version of the modmod ill move all hunters to tracking, it makes the AI less of an all around pain too, as they dont get the extremely mobile, impervious to all specialized promotions, efficient city defenders right off the bat.

if you see anything specific from the full modmod i made for the Light phase (detailed in the first post of this thread) that you'd like in this version let me know and ill see what i can do.
