The suggestion that Gorina switch its production to the UN instead of the Manhattan Project has been brought forward. The SETI Program looks to be lost to Germany, so a switch to another Wonder must be made. Do feel that the UN Wonder should be moved from Aureus to Gorina to be replaced by the Manhattan Program?

Relevant discussion can be found here.

Please vote Yes, No, or Abstain.

This poll will remain open until Sunday's t/c. If the results are favorable for the switch, Gorina will be swithed to the UN Wonder prior to the t/c start.

I'm assuming that it is not merely speculation that Germany will complete SETI before we will. If there is a chance that we can still get SETI, I'd rather have that, but if Germany does beat us to it, then I'd rather have the UN than the Manhattan Project.

There was a poll about this issue where it was asked if we should investigate Berlin.

There was further discussion here on the issue (this is the broken link from above fixed, (I think)).

And for a more entertaining thread and the broaching of this idea try here.

While I admire the people of Gorina, I would like to point out that, when the initial poll deciding where to build the UN was held, the arguements for Gorina to become a top 5 city were put forth.

They failed.

Gorina has a significant number of wonders already - it is time for the citizens of Gorina to give up their self-centered ways, and allow another city of Fanatica to benefit from a cultural wonder.

I call upon the Governors to realize that this poll itself is an outrage! Should we continually poll every decision over and over again until the desired result is achieved? No - this should not stand!

The people of Fanatica have already decided this issue - build the UN in Aureus. This is nothing more than a way to circumvent an decision that was already made. I am disgusted at this deliberate attempt to sabotage a previous decision that is still valid.

EDIT: Yes, yes I am a little stressed. The point stands though.

I voted No as well. We have already decided to build the UN in Aureus. In addition, the Germans could well lose the SETI to Gorina, if they had even a single turn of disorder or even pollution in a critical place in Berlin. And if we lose the SETI to Germany we can switch to another Wonder - The Manhattan Project in Gorina. Though it may not "fit in" with the other wonders in Gorina, it would be much better to try to get SETI and have a backup than abandon SETI and switch the UN from the city we decided in a previous poll to place it in to the Wonder-heavy city of Gorina.

I voted YES.

With all due respect, Ravensfire, I brought up my request purely for aesthetic reasons. I did this in the spirit of building on the previous successes of one of the grandest cities in DemoGame history. It was never my intent to circumvent any previous poll or to stack the deck in one city's favor, as you charge.

Simply stated, Gorina has just been presented with the Camelot Award by entering the Top 5 cities. Even more amazing is the fact that it already stands at #4. With all of the festivities surrounding this grand event in the City of Gorina thread, do we really want to put a blemish on the city's honor by building the destructive Manhattan Project there?

Not that I have any problem with our obtaining this wonder --- someone is going to build it; might as well be us. But, honestly.....don't you feel that Aureus, traditionally a military producer, would be a better home for Manhattan Project? And if we are going to welcome diplomats from all over the world to the UN, wouldn't it be best to have them meet in a world class city that houses the Sistine Chapel, Universal Suffrage and other Great Wonders?

But I reiterate, this is all purely for aesthetics. To me, culminating Fanatica's grand achievement with the most vile Wonder in the game would be a major letdown. But then again, I guess you would rather nuke Gorina into the top spot by raining nuclear havoc on Babylon, Athens and Washington. For shame.

Also, keep in mind that we can switch Aureus to SETI with the same backup plan. Nothing would change. If Germany builds SETI, then Aureus builds the MP. If they blow it, then Aureus gets SETI. Once again, this makes more sense.

If this poll passes I will ask that the Capitoline governor post queues to follow DZ's planned course of action.

I voted no to this action. I do however support the idea of Gorina building wonders. But I feel that it is time for another well abled city to take the spot light abd build a wonder.

Sorry, Ravensfire. I hadn't realized that I was stepping on yer toes. I was just trying to go with the flow of the movement that was visible to me.

I do unnderstand how you feel, but looking at the votes, they stand at 6-5-1. That's a fairly even split. Like I said, I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers, just trying to do my job as Mayor of Gorina.

Gorina sincerely wishes Aureus (named by my friend Plexus) the best of luck.

I hope one day that My named city would be chosen to house a wonder

I will follow Cyc's lead and apologize for my personal attack on Ravensfire, whom I consider to be DG3's most accomplished President bar none.

This does not change the fact that I find his stance on nuclear weapons alarming. And the fact that no one can see the big picture here is alarming as well.

Let's put it in a real world perspective. There are many that would say that New York has everything, so why should it have more? Yet --- and I mean no disrespect to the good people of Iowa(or Aureus for that matter)--- you don't see the UN building standing in Des Moines, do you?

You all should know that I hold very dear the city of Aureus. As Term 2 President, I fought to keep it in existence when we were attacked by the vile(and now extinct) Egyptians. I respect the fact that it has been one of our steadfast military producers. Thats why building the Manhattan Project there (or SETI, if we are lucky) makes sense.. Just like building the UN in Gorina makes sense.

But it looks like the people(including three Presidents, past and present) just might prefer not to take new developments into account when polling issues. Oh, well....if we are lucky and our timing is right, we just may be able to end the Camelot Award festivites with quite a firework show. How depressing. :(

Since when have nuclear weapons become depressing? :p

When Bush called them Weapons of Mass Destruction and discovered that the North Koreans were building them :mischief:

But thats my theory from OT.

Since always, Boots. ;) They are the weapon of choice for cowards and rogues. If we really intend to end the game in this fashion, these are exactly what we would become.

I only use *WOMD as a deturent. (A MAD Psycology effect amoungs other Civs)

*WOMD = Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Don't sell yourself short, Bootstoots. ;) I think you have done a fine job as President this term, possessing neither of those qualities.

I know that. :D But my compliment still stands and it seemed like as good a time as any to let you know. You've been particularly adept at maintaining the mechanics of your position, and the game.

Still think you're wrong here, though..... ;)
