Swordsmen Will not Upgrade-PTW

This problem is causing me a bit of a headache:

My swordsmen will not upgrade to medieval infantry (as described in the civilopedia) when in a town with barracks, access to iron, feudalism completed, and an excess of 190 gold . . . I cannot imagine it costing any more since there is only a 10 shield difference.

Any insight?

Oh, and where can I find my patch version?

[EDIT]:Ctrl+Shift+U works to upgrade all applicable . . . but "U" does not work . . . another minor frustration.
