'sync. out of range' - an odd graphics problem

Greetings.

I am experiencing an odd problem when i try to load civ III.

It seems that EVERY OTHER TIME i load the game the screen goes black and a message appears saying 'sync. out of range'. I cannot access the game or get back to windows so i have to restart my computer.

My screen is set to default 800 x 600 resolution, and normally when i load the game the screen switches to 1024 x 768 on it's own. But as i said, every other time i load it the screen goes black.

This has not always been the case as when i first got the game there were no problems.

Is there any way to perhaps solve this problem?

Set your desktop res to 1024x768 and keep it there.

Add the following lines to your civilization3.ini file:
Video Mode=1024 (Note the space)
KeepRes=1.

It also might not be a bad idea to force your refresh rate too. Refresh=XX, where XX is your refresh rate.
