Digital televisions are becoming more popular, and many of the new models can be used with PCs. However most units are fixed-pixel displays currently with resolutions of 1280x720 or even 852x480.

CivIII won't start on my 1280x720 HDTV with VGA input; I believe this is because 720 is less than the minimum required 768 of 1024x768.

More and more people will have PCs hooked up to their HDTVs with Windows Media Center Edition and projects like MythTV, FreeVo and Windows PCs with HDTV tuner cards.

Please try to make Civ4 usable on 1280x720 pixel displays.

If you can somehow make 852x480 playable then you'll make some EDTV owners happy, too.

Thanks!

Nevertheless, this is a valid input. If Civ4 stays as long in the market as Civ3, this should be taken into consideration.

Yes, but there are an increasing number of people who have set up home theater systems with great sound, large wide screen and PC-compatible. Say you've just put $3k into a 63" widescreen HDTV and THX surround sound system with subwoofers. You get your PC hooked up to it and happily play a FPS and surf some CivFanatics. Then you double-click on Civ4 and....nothing happens.

Back when CivIII was released this probably couldn't have been forseen, but with Civ4 it can be planned for.

This is where Firaxis' decision to make Civ4 in 3D really makes sense. It is trivial to support many different resolutions when your artwork is built for 3D projection.
