However out of touch I may be with Civ 4, Do any of you guys have any idea on the system specs of Civilization IV? I'd liked to know, and this is an easy way to find out. I am mainly worried that It will be Windows Xp only.

Doubt it will be XP only, lots of ppl still using 98. But you might need to have 98SE.

My guess on the specs:

The graphics engine doesn't seem to be a real ram sucker, so..

minimum:
1.6 ghz
256 ram
128ram graphics card

recommended:
2ghz
512 ram
128ram graphics card

Since its based on the pirates engine, system requirements should be the same or very near atleast.

I would imagine it will run on a 64mb graphics card - how well i don't know, but it ought to run, for sure.

wasnt pirates 64MB? i got 256, but IIRC, i played it on my old GF4 MX440 64MB.

But notice that Pirates does not have a lot of graphics involved.

Land with tree's, oceans, waves splashing, clouds and ships. When something happens, you switch to a different engine/screen.

i agree. but 64 VRAM isnt as little as people may imagine nowadays. sure it was DX7 and low settings, but my 64MB GF4 MX440 handled HL2 and CS:S pretty well, and those games have alot of stuff going on!

from civfanatics pre-release information:

Playing Requirements

This section will deal only with the Official System Requirements for the game, as well as the ESRB Rating.

*

The Minimum System Requirements for the game are: 1 GHz CPU, 256MB RAM, and a 32MB video card with hardware transform and lighting capabilities. The recommended Specifications are: 512MB of ram, Pentium4 processor, and a recent graphics card (like the Radeon 9800).

holy king..you beat me to the post button..lol..my computer for one is un able to meet these requirements...looks like im gonna be waiting a little bit longer to play civ4

It handled HL2? That's interesting. However if you have little ram on your vid card, but a lot of ram on your MB, then I can understand that.

Civ4 spec should be higher that Pirates spec, as civ includes many calculations and random number generating it will requires faster CPU and more RAM to handle that. About graphics spec it should be close to Pirates.

but CIV4 is turn based, so everything is still. in pirates things are changing all the time

yes the processor has much more time to think....believe it or not :D

I've got a GeForce 6800 GT, 3400+ 64 and a gig of RAM so I don't think Civ4 will be a problem for moi. And if it is, I'll just install it on the 3800+ 64/GeForce 7800GTX I'm getting later this month.

The calculations occur between turns , if you play small map it will be fast, but if you play large map with many opponents it will take long time between turns. (like in civ3 it sometimes take 3 minutes between turns on a large map).

Civ 3 has never been that slow for me, even on huge maps and with more civs and added units.
