We are 30 turns away from Chivalry. But we can get that tech in trades as well. We can also get Theology and Engineering.

What techs do we want to research next ?

Theology
- Printing Press (after Theology)
- Education (after Theology)
- Engineering (after Theology)

Engineering
- Invention (after Engineering)
- Theology (after Engineering)

Education at max rate.

I'd suggest the following:

Theology (trade)
Education
Banking
Economics
Printing Press
Democracy

This line gives us some of the most expensive techs in the Middle Age's, and leave's us in a perfect poistion to trade for Invention, Gunpowder, etc. Not only that, but once we acquire banking, and start building banks, our scientific output should increase, and allow us to take an early lead even before we hit the industrial age's.

If we adopt this scheme, I still question building banks asap. My reasoning is:

All our cities should grow to size 12 which in many cases requires aqueducts first.

Obviously we want to go the the science way. Thus we will set our slider to 70%-80% research, 20%-30% luxuries (because we cannot yet trade for overseas luxuries).

Thus we have at most 10% of our commerce go to taxes. And only these 10% would benefit from banks.

Therefore I agree that we need markets as step towards banks and for happiness.

And I think we need universities for research.

After universities and cathedrals, I usually build knights to prepare for a cavalry attack to conquer as much as possible.

Only then I might build some banks in high commerce cities.

Great Library Destroyer full speed ahead! err, I mean, Education.

Let us educate the Germans so that they don't need that library! Then we'll trade (if needed) up the Gunpowder path.

I agree with Chieftess. There is no real urgency to research into better units as we are currently the big dog in our area. If we would go up the gunpowder -> Mil trad path, we'd only make it cheaper for our "beloved" enemies.

Kill the GL, so we can peacefully and confidently trade and research.

Without any technical analysis, I want to "kick the bums out"! Lets go for military techs.
