What do you think of tablets, and which ones are the best? I sorta need one. I think the whole writing on the screen part would be awesome, but I'm afraid I won't be able to play civ.

This belongs in Computer Talk; and on topic, I dunno I've never used a tablet PC, but Civ should run unless the computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements.

I wouldn't go for one until the touchscreen technology/software is better. You could get a cheaper, faster notebook instead. Besides, typing is faster than writing anyway:)

Motion Computing is good if you want a real tablet. If you want a convertible tablet fujitsu is ok.

Just make sure you don't get something underpowered. They tend to start out with lower specs and thats the biggest problem with their performance. So get something fast if it not responsive then the process will seem tedious. The software is pretty good actually especially the hand writing recognition which has really improved in the last few years. But I wouldn't get one for the novelty. If you have a real use for it then go for it. Obviously typing a document is faster but drawing arrows, circling objects, etc taking notes that don't just involve text blocks is going to be better.

Looks good, the graphics are weak, but that is expected on tablet PCs, it should run Civ4, but nothing far beyond that. But, unless you need a tablet pc, you could get a comparable laptop for alot cheaper.

Absolutely, definetly, go to a store and try this tablet (or at least a similar one) before purchasing it. The "budget" touchscreens (generally those under $2-2.5k) aren't always that great because they aren't as sensitive as the higher quality ones. And while the touchscreen idea itself is great, the whole "writing on the screen" concept doesn't always go over as well as people think that it will. And if you end up not liking the main feature of the tablet, then you can end up getting a whole lot more computer for the same or lower price.

I've been shopping laptops for the last 6 months and was originally dead-set on a tablet, but I've decided that I'll probably be going for a smaller standard laptop - leaning towards a Dell M1330 or Thinkpad T61.

Well, the real question is, will it run Spore? Because if it doesn't I'm popping in the biggest RAM chip I can find.

Looking at the requirements, yes, but not very well. RAM has nothing to do with it. An integrated chipset will never perform well, which your likely to get in a tablet.

However, I think you should try it out, speedo probably knows more than I do about tablets.

If you want to run Spore very well at all, you DEFINITELY need discrete graphics. Civ4 will work on most modern tablets merely because it is a relatively old game; do not expect to run very many new games on a tablet.
