Tactical Advantages of the Drill Promotion?

Also, if you've got nothing else, drill 2 archers from protective leaders are effective against city garrision 1 archers on a hill with 20% culture from my experience. One archer will reduce the defender to ~1.5 str and a second will kill it

They are not immune to collateral damage by other units, namely Bombers, Armor units and Cho-ku-nu.
Very good point. It's been awhile since I have had the opportunity to be reminded of such.

So much for playing the game for the challenge! Haven't lost or quit a late-age game since shortly after vanilla came out.

I was under the impression that units only use their first strike when defending, is this not correct? If I attack with a Drill unit, it gets a free attack also??

BTW, I also give my machine guns +33% vs. Mounted units, since machine guns are even more effective against masses of horse than ....
A little sacrifice of balance in favor of historical flavor.

Do you mean you've modified the assets? I guess that's the only way because Drill IV only gives +10%, and Siege Weapons can't get Formation.

I think that Drill promos are now important to Catapults and Trebuchets just before Cannon era, because that allows them to get to their maximum damage cap faster and survive.

Yes, I've made changes to several units in CustomAssets, both UnitInfos & one in PromotionInfos (I transfered city raider promotions from armor to gun(powder) units).

Obviously, I'm not playing MP.

I play huge island maps alot. Battelships and Destroyers with Drill 3 are fun and a must for me (2 generals). Less overall damage and colateral damage when they attack or defend before they move back to heal in my new "super-landbased-healing-forts". :goodjob:

But I dont know the math. Maybe other promotions would be better. I allready use a mixture with pure colateral Battelships to attack big stacks.
