Tactics and strategy...follow the action

Played my turn, Moved NW unto the hill (which had been chopped). Rome has 1 archer in the city. Dose he have another unit on his way to me? I asume his first unit build was a warrior.

Also does slaving my second worker make sense? I know it was mentioned before. If i slave it he can start chopping and heading to the copper quicker, but it takes 2 more turns to get back to size 2. I am thinking my next build should be a dog not archer followed by settler, in case he sends a warrior.

@ Dan...you should definatelly slave the worker, it is 20 hammers from the slave and 2 worker turns. How does working one unimproved tile get you that? You will grow fast with your 6 food tile to slave again.

@ Munro...you are 12/14 food and can grow in 1. It is much more eficient to grow in one building something (archer maybe) and slave worker next turn, than make 3 turn worker.

Here is an overview of the resources map

My turn was pretty eventful. Finished roading the corn and killed the Rome scout that had moved onto the hill E of the corn. Rome's cap has a 2nd archer now (pretty much guarantees he did not send me a unit). moved Dog to hill South of cap and he has not touched his food. The question is should be delay his working the food as long as possible or sit on his copper?

This is good stuff :) I am surprised they left scout there, but gj on killing it.

So what to do with the dog...2 options IMO

1. Fortify in place....this will delay their food even further as they cannot escort worker with 1 archer in open land. They will propably chop again and go for 3rd archer.

2. Go to forest hill...this will allow them to put an archer on the hill and safely road towards corn...but improving corn is still slow and by moving on the forest hill you are safe and have the option to move towards indian lands.

Your call Dan.

I am thinking moving west but maybe it's a bad idea? What do you think? North west, we may get hammered by two bowmens. As shown on the screen , a bit less than 9 hours left on the timer :)

hmm..what odds do 2 Bowmen have on a Pro Skirm on flat land? Just tested it with WB (on a made up map of course) it is 19.4% for 1v1 on flat land without bonuses. He would have favorable odds to 2v1 you but not overwhelming like with 2v1 warriors on flat land. If he can't kill you with 2 he would be at a very bad disadvantage.

BTW I have 14.3% odds on Rome with my Dog :P (not going to try it). He moved 1 archer onto the forest hill west of his city, so I will just fortify in place to keep him away from the food. Slaved the worker, 11 hammers overflow into, will have out in 5 turns with help from a chop.

Plan is Dog>(overflow from chop to Settler)>Archer>Settler
Worker 1: pasture starting next turn>chop forest hill(settler)
Worker 2: chop forest hill and road tile>mine copper

Will be working both food and copper at size 3.

My returning scout has uncovered another source of Zulu copper 5 tiles to the south of my capital... with Pigs, Copper and Corn all in the initial 3x3 cross. :D

Also, my warrior reached Delhi but there was an archer waiting for him. I'm on a hill with combat 1, vs. an unpromoted archer. Jobe must have 70% odds or better to kill me, but he has no backup unit in case he loses.. some nice promotions for the warrior if I get lucky.

Tx Dan :) I moved west, and next turn I am up against a warrior and a bowmen in babylon :) Whipped the worker as well, have 24 overflow hammers to use next turn (SK?)...

@Munro: looks promising ...

@ Munro...nice :) The archer has less than 70% on the warrior but has the first strike as well...he might try it as he can slave if he loses.

@ Ras...he will not attack you, it would be foolish of him...next skirmisher yes...

Did I just missed a turn...grrrr...I get on and see 18 hours left an their timer 1 turn of food stored and my workers unmoved. sorry guys, my fault. Since my workers were not working I just set myself back a turn, not good. How quick is this turn timer? I will make sure I check every day..

have you registered at civstats? It sends you email every new turn, or you can check civstats, there is a new turn evry 2 days and our turn lasts 24 hours.

ok,,thanks..I think when the game was reloaded the time each turn ended changed and that threw me off. I used to have 5-6 hours left in the morning before the turn ended. I have to remember to play in the afternoon/evening now. So my expansion just gets delays one turn.

My scout revealve horse west of Egypt... this is bad news. Settling on the horse is a very good spot for them, which means they can have war chariots in a few turns.

Also I see Munro's warrior survived the archer attack and gained 5xp! Double forest would be nice, but I guess most forests in Indian land are chopped that's why you gave him cover...

Logged in to find that Rome had killed my Dog, at the cost of 2 archers and almost the 3rd. Thats a lot of used chops to kill one upgraded warrior. Will be at least 5 turns before he can get his food resource online as well so his growth was really set back. Plan is to send my scout back west as a sentry now that I have found a good location for my 2nd city (1S of the cow), though it will be a minimum of 11-12 turns before any unit could be in my lands.

Just 2 XP unfortunately.. (won at about 23% odds). The combat1 is from the aggressive trait so cover seemed like a better bet than woody1 by itself...

We need to discuss what we are going to tech next.

Options IMO

1. Meditation - If we get IW only one turn later than them then we could go for it, otherwise we are sure to lose it.
2. Masonry - to connect marble and stone
3. Pottery - Not sure this is needed yet, we will not cottage or make granaries at least before we have second city up.
4. Polytheism - It is more expensive but we will get the religion for sure...is it worth it?

Anything else?
