Hi peeps i'm a fan of civilization always have been but this one is just a joke problems everywhere but you can take the game back please read the underlined part of the warranty:lol:

This is because the game we are playing is not ready there for playing. under "workmanship under normal use" in the underlined part of the warranty we can argue workmanship even tho the game plays because the games problems all game players in the uk i ask you if you have had enough of the CTD's the non working patches/patches that make more problems than they solve (v1.52) yet again ati problems then take it back if you don't get your money report it to trading standards as 2K/Firaxis are selling faulty games with there plan of sell it now patch/fix it later:mad:

We have problems with ATI cards? Mine must be broken because it works flawlessly, maybe it's a fake! :)

Seriously though, there is nothing quite as much fun as taking software back to the store because it doesn't work right and having them tell you their return policy prohibits refunds on open software and then you point out the warranty that came with the software. It's a great way to really screw-up some poor, stoned kid who just wants his paycheck so he can go eat at Burger King. I definately won't be returning Civ4 but I have returned other games and applications, almost as much fun as tele-marketers if you ask me.

However, one note on your warranty above:

"Owner warrants that the original Storage Media holding the SOFTWARE is free from defects in materials and workmanship"

This means that if the CD/DVD itself is defective you may return it. This does not mean if you feel the program contained on the CD or DVD is defective you may return it.

So, take it back to the place you bought it from, then.

You neglected to empahsize this part though.

OWNER DOES NOT REPRESENT, WARRANT OR GUARANTEE THE QUALITY OR THE PERFORMANCE OF THE SOFTWARE OR ACCOMPANYING MATERIALS OTHER THAN AS SET FORTH IN THE ABOVE LIMITED WARRANTY. OWNER ALSO DOES NOT REPRESENT, WARRANT OR GUARANTEE THAT THE SOFTWARE OR ACCOMPANYING MATERIALS' CAPABILITIES WILL MEET YOUR NEEDS OR THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL CONTINUOUSLY OPERATE, BE ERROR FREE, OR THAT PROBLEMS WILL BE CORRECTED.

i have an ati card
and i have no proplems

As pointed out above, the warranty covers defects in the storage media (the CDs / DVDs) not percieved defects in the software or incompatibility problems with your system.

Ah, just put the disc in the microwave for 10 seconds and then it will be defective. However, you might be issued a replacement :)

I have below system spec's and I can run Civ4 just fine. If I were you I would take that ATI card card and try to get your money back.

my pc works well with doom 3, brothers in arms EIB, etc... why does it keep comming up with "not enough video memory" for a slow turn based game? i have more than enough memory for this game and thats just on the graphics card...

(v1.52 patch) I play single player games on Standard and large maps. I have experienced only one crash (quote phoenix 56721) I don't like playing small maps i only play on huge ones as i like really long games if any one can help me sort out the problem then i would buy the game again. But untill then i'll stick to civilization 3 at least it works

Punctuation please !
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phew. That was heavy on the eyes.

Anyway, I just wanted to post my experience with civ 4. It works incredibly perfectly fine. From out of the box through patch 1.52.

No problems here, ATI Card... Maybe its your computer? I would take it back to the seller of the computer..

Play on a standard map using the "Marathon" setting.

Also, did you install the v1.52 upgrade? Did you change the settings to be LOW graphics use or are you running with them on the default (HIGH)? Do you run other software either before or during the time you run CIV, or do you do a fresh restart (to defrag your memory and allocation table) and quit any auto-load programs you have (e.g., Yahoo chat, printer managers, Explorer) and don't need or want while you run CIV? Have you looked in the troubleshooting forum for other settings you can change in the INI file to optimize the game?

Joke? What Joke, I see a guy complaining and I respect that, but the hell is the joke?

Civ IV has been a very troublesome game if you know what I mean and they had to patch it up a lot, and at the same time new problems have come up (that multiplayer issue for example). The joke is that according to the license agreement the game should be returned to the shop if it's not working as it should, and civ IV never has..

My system is "Marginal" according to the requirements (1.2GHz Athlon, 384 MB RAM) but Civ runs fine. Aside from some installation problems -- due in part to a bad CD-ROM and in part to a software conflict with my cell phone PC Sync application -- I have had no problems running the game. In game video is choppy, but no CTDs, XML errors or the like

Dell Inspiron 5160 laptop: 3.2Ghz P4 CPU, 512mb of RAM, and a 64mb NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 video card.

Civ4 works fine for me, even with most of the video settings on "High". I get some choppiness during the in-game movies, and the gameplay is slightly sluggish, but it works. I haven't had a single crash-to-desktop yet, running either v1.09 or v1.52.

Admittedly, I have not tried a huge map yet. I've played Standard maps on both Standard speed and Epic speed (I prefer Epic), and that's plenty of gameplay to satisfy me.

If only they'd release the low-res movies, it would be perfect....

My Radeon 9800 does a decent job. THe latest patch was incredible, made the game 100% more playable. That, and opening my AGP aperture from 64M to 256M to match the video card make a huge diff too.
