taking cities

is there any way to take over the enemy city than by force?
in civ3 you could take it over 'by culture' if your culture was high enought I guess. Is there this possibility in CIV5?

I know you can trade cities by diplomacy but are there other ways to take it over?

As a shoot answer I can only think about pretending a city via diplomacy, intended as tribute I mean.
