Taking over cities on different continent

I have taken over a continent completely and have moved onto another continent.

Every time I take over a city the corruption is real high and courts and police station do nothing. I always end up with only 1 shield. That's it and lots of shields are wasted.

What can I do? Is that what forbidden palace is for? If so I'm screwed as I built it in another city on my main continent.

Now, I just keep 1 city on the new continent because it has a barracks and can heal units and I raze the rest.

Is this the same for everyone else???

You pretty much have to give up on actually producing anything with the far-away cities and support them from the mainland. Unless, that is, you can afford to move your Palace there!

That doesn't mean those cities can't be useful for you though. Use rush-builds to turn them into culture dynamos. There's nothing quite like 100 temple+libraries to jack that culture score up! It will also have the side-effect of filling in the border gaps, so that the AI won't flock in with settlers, and it will increase your score since score is primarily based on land area (silly that, but oh well!)

If I move my palace won't the corruption on the main(original) continent skyrocket?

You move your palace because I assumed your Forbiden palace is nearby or at least on your original continent? If so your Forbiden Palace will reduce corruption on your old continent and your new palace will reduce corruption on your new continent.

Saving a GL for the FP can be a good idea, as long as you don't leave him idle too long. The problem I have seen is that saving a GL seems to reduce the chances of another one appearing.

Another thing you can do, especially if you have a far-flung empire, is switch to Communism. This will give you a flat-rate for corruption based only on number of cities, regardless of location (with the 1.16f patch...before that, it didn't work right) Of course, this will accordingly increase corruption on your home continent, but at least those remote colonies will finally have worthwhile production. Combined with the absence of war weariness, this is, IMHO, the best path to world conquest. (Don't get me wrong...in real life, I'm a conservative Republican. I'm talking about the game.) The other option, if you are more peaceful, is to stay at Democracy to make more money, and rush-build improvements abroad.

Funny, communism didn't do too well in real life in the world conquest category! Even in China they've switched to free market economics!

Corruption?

Go to Editor and click the "reduces corruption" box for temples and banks. Maybe for cathedrals, also.

I assume if people are religious they are a little less corrupt than pagans, and I assume the bank comes with an SEC to reduce corruption.

The extraordinarily high corruption at a distance from the palaces is wrong.

BTW, reduce the cost for building the palace. I have. It works better.

Awww, man! Come on, Troyens! I did give my disclaimer!

What are the only places where the Commies still rule? Cuba? 'Nam? N. Korea? Real econimic powerhouses there!
And a flat-line corruption rate?!! Does Sid really think that some local Party boss way off in Kamchatka isn't going to steal more than the apparatchik in Moscow who has the KGB looking over his shoulder?
