Tale of Sir Flevance : No Story yet.

**I am glad to see it going over well. :D I actually was not sure if the lack of pictures were making the story bland. I am having a blast with this game though so no worries of me abandoning it any time soon. I usually only get to play about 20-30 turns per post. Sometimes even less. The story is soley based off of the choices I make in charactor. All diplomatic relation are done through role play (hence the more aggressive nature behind Kublai Khan in the story)

The fun aspect for me in this story is the role play element as I dont even know what will happen next. :lol: The little gnome may end up causing the fall of the Japanese Empire. (He is becoming torn between favoring war at the moment.) Although, I did set it on prince to have a little less mandatory decision making for SOME flexibility. As a side note the key charactors that will be around for a while are - General Silverwolf (D&D charactor from a long time ago), Lapkin (again D&D [he is growing up in the background]), Kammu (actual Japanese history charactor), and of course Tokugawa, and Flevance.

Thank you for the encouragement. It is good to see people are enjoying it.:goodjob:

Damn, there isnt any more yet! loving your story!

With the city of Damascus now detroyed, the Japanese workers in the area quickly went to work on the countryside preparing it for a new city to be built. Road construction went underway and the main focus of the workers was to build a farm for the rice in the area. The diet of the Japanese had been mostly beef and whatever fruits and vegetables they could manage to find in the wild countryside. Most of the wild food found was horded for a long time. Hopefully, with the wheat farms that had recently been constructed and now with the rice coming in the health might increase on a small scale to add variety in the people's meals.

The armies of swordsmen that had taken Damascus quickly took camp in the hills to the east of Japan. General Silverwolf waited to hear from Sir Flevance before making an approach any further upon Saladin's people. He still remained wishful that the Japanese would work for peace with Arabia rather than continue into a longer war.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tokugawa and Kammu sat at a table within the meeting chamber surrounded by markings on the walls filled with information and maps of the area that Kammu had been working on. He had gathered little information since King Flevance had left for Japan Valley. The two men were discussing a number of different matters concerning rumors and gossip and what, if any, effects this may have on the public. Matters of the public were beginning to become more difficult as the population rised through birth and the last of the tribes joining Japan.
They told a few jokes about a supposed Sea Creature in the Immortal Sea. As they laughed they were interrupted by the doors to the chamber opening and Flevance walking in. He was not in his usual robe instead wearing some leather armor that had became quite popular in the eastern cities. Once the swordsmen had been trained they realized they could wear a heavier version of the leather armor made from the cattle hides near Gateway City. Tokugawa had heard of this armor, of course, as he was in charge of shipping the hide to Fort Ironrock but he had yet to see it himself.
"What are you two going on about?" King Flevance said as he walked through the large wooden doorway.
"We were just discussing how to rob the treasury and move to America to live off the money." Tokugawa replied with a hearty laugh afterwards. "What brings you back to the capitol, things aren't going too bad to the east are they?"
"Actually, Saladin has taken Fort Ironrock and Golden Harbor and his armies are approaching Japan Valley as we speak." Sir Flevance said with a bit of anger in his voice.
"What?!" The two men shouted simultaneously before seeing a smile come across Flevance's face. They had yet to see Sir Flevance joke about political matters in such a way and had fallen easily for the joke.
"You bastard," Tokugawa said as if the joke had not been funny but still gave a chuckle over the afterthought. "What really brings you here?"
"I just mostly came back to catch up with everyone back here at Flevanston Bay. See how things were going here in the west again, now that the situation of Damascus is under control." Flevance took a small tour around the room noting the new markings on the wall to reveal the new Japanese cities of Japan Harbor and Wasteland Pass. He also noticed that the capitol of America, Washington, had not been recorded here. "Have you recieved any new information on the other nations, Kammu?"
"Not alot I am afraid. We have located America who has made a city named Portland to our southern borders but we do not know where their capitol is." Kammu said with regret.
"Don't worry about that," King Flevance said in an assuring tone. "Our friend Confucia seems to be generating information through distant followers of the faith. American priests have shared information with him for the records of the Kong Miao. I would highly suggest you go to Japan Valley to work together with Moses and Confucia on foriegn intelligence."
"Wouldn't it be wiser to wait until the countryside is a bit more tame before moving records into the area?" Kammu suggested.
"Actually, we are in the process of taking Damascus now. It is only a matter of time before we take it. The city walls prooved to be a bit of trouble but it is merely an obstacle more than a problem. By the time you make it to Japan Valley we should have control."
"Your that confident so soon?" Tokugawa said from a distance obviously intrigued by the Japanese advance.
"Yes," Sir Flevance said showing no trace of doubt at all in his face. "We already claim the surrounding countryside enough to have Saladin's troops trapped inside their walls. Now, its just a matter of going in after them."
"So, what are your current plans besides moving Kammu to Japan Valley?" Tokugawa said with a tone that suggested he was curious as to the real reason Sir Flevance had came back.
"Actually, I was thinking of moving Kammu into Japan Valley as the governor to work with Confucia on foriegn intelligence as I have said. I have given orders to burn the city of Damascus. Then we cou-," the king said before Tokugawa interrupted.
"Wait." Tokugawa interrupted. "Why would you want to burn Damascus? That will only fuel the war and give people reason to hate the Japanese as it will make us look like monsters. I don't understand."
"Actually," Kammu now intruded into the subject. "It wont look that bad on us in concerns to world polotics. Saladin is known to be weaker than most empires. His only advantage is though opening his borders with everyone that seems like he does so out of fear. Even if it is not through fear, no doubt that is how the conquerers see it. Besides, the Americans favor our decisions in most things and could even be seen as a possible ally." Kammu's words made sense to a degree although alot of it was his own speculations. However, this was also the field he paid more attention to than any other.
"Yes," Sir Flevance said agreeing with most of what Kammu said. "This is also our chance to show the rival nations that Japan is a nation not to be challenged. By showing our superiority to the other nations this early, when war begins to break out upon all the other nations they will think twice before challenging Japan. This is why I am thinking of invading Saladin even further into his lands to make sure he thinks twice for retaliating against Japan over Damascus." It was the last part that made the two men understand the real cause of the continued war. No doubt Saladin was furious of the initial attack made on them from Japan and would no doubt seek vindication.
"I see." Tokugawa said letting the other two men know he had now understood the many reasons for continuing the assault. "Well, then may I suggest that we focus on getting our trial system setup throughout the lands rather soon. Our people grow weary of war and we are expanding so fast we are no longer able to keep an eye on the needs of all the people. We need to elect officials in each state to uphold the laws so that extreme levels of extortion do not corrupt any of our cities. OF course, this is more important to the east than anywhere else." Tokugawa's words made alot of sense to the other two men and they began to make the final plans.
Kammu would do as previously discussed and go to Japan Valley. Tokugawa would stay at Flevanston Bay and begin to lay claim to the territories in the southern jungles before America could claim them. Sir Flevance would head back towards the east to oversee the decisions made in Fort Ironrock and Japan Valley and let General Silverwolf know that the decision to move into Arabia had been decided.
Once Kammu had reached Japan Valley and visited the Kong Miao, he realized why Sir Flevance had suggested he work together with them. They held alot of information of the other empires with their records than he had in his own. Now they had information concerning the Greeks, French, and Mongolians along with the position of the American capitol. He was also able to update his information concerning arabia based off of the strategical maps General Silverwolf had been recording.
General Silverwolf watched the last of the embers of the fire burning out on the hillside. Occassionally, his eyes glanced over the land of Arabia. He had recieved word from a messenger that he was to continue the attack on Arabia as soon as he and the men were ready. The plan was to move on the city of Kufah first to push Saladin deeper into his own territory.
Silverwolf knew Flevance would try ultimately for Medina, a prize city of Arabia. It had been rumored that Medina had been playing a key role to Arabia as a military city. Silverwolf knew that claiming that city would not be as easy as Damascus or Kufah. Kufah had no walls and little Arabian military presence in that territory. He felt bad for the Arabians who had fallen victom to a political war over copper, horses, and rice. He completely understood why Japan had seized Damascus, but he couldnt figure out why they had burned it. He also struggled to understand why the Arabians people in cities such as Kufah and Medina were being punished. As far as he knew, these cities held no resources Japan did not already possess.
His orders were his orders, though, and so far Flevance and Tokugawa had not lead the people of Japan along the wrong path and the people of Japan had even benefitted from their rule. He had to admit that the Japanese had lost hardly any of their people to war. People had also respected that the act of slavery had not been issued as popular as it was in the surrounding cultures. He woke one of the messenger boys and sent them after the small archery unit that had been keeping sentry over Kufah giving the message to have them report to Fort Ironrock for further instructions.
He planned to have the Eagleview and Bloodhawk units reposition themselves in the archery camp to guard as the old positions no longer held strategic values. This would give him units more skilled in guerilla warfare from hilltops in that position as well. Once the the rookie archers were out of the area he advanced his armies on Kufah. He decided it best to take the city and then reposition the Japanese forces in a more defensive position to await reinforcements before moving on Medina.
Kufah had fallen in under a couple of weeks. The people of Kufah fought hard and managed to kill the warriors known as the Steel Brigade as a last ditch effort. The Steel Brigade had not seen many battles and unfortunatley fell to their first battle to the Arabians. Their chances at taking the city were high but the Arabian archers had taken their stock of wheat and piled it around the wooden gate. When the Steel Brigade had broken into the city, the archers had shot fire into the wheat setting it and many soldiers on fire. In the chaos they were able to take out the majority of the warriors. Only a few managed to escape back to the remaining Japanese armies.
This was only a small victory for the Arabs, though, as this angered Silverwolf and he attacked immediatley after this incident to have his warriors completely take Kufah and he decided if they wanted to burn the city, he would finish the job.
Once Kufah had been destroyed Silverwolf followed plans to reposition on the hills once again and wait for reinforcements. During the assault on Kufah a messenger had came with news of a new war machine being made in Fort Ironrock called a catapult. Only a rough description was given to him as to what it was designed for but as far as he could tell it was more of a ranged attack unit. Hopefully, it wouldnt be long before this catapult device arrived as his men were getting tired of war. Maybe with the taking of Medina, Flevance would call off the attack.
The armies had held position in the hills for some time. General Silverwolf was surprised that no official outpost had been established by the Japanese men. They continued to remain a group of camps in the following months. Then an unexpected surprise came up as the scouts of the camp reported seeing a few armies of spearmen and archers approaching the camp. They decided to hold position and evaluate the movements of the new armies that approached with caution upon the Japanese armies.
At first, the General thought this would be another attempt at peace negotiations. However, this assumption died when he saw a band of pioneers and caravans with the army. He initially wanted to attack but instead decided to watch where they aimed to settle. To his amazement the armies would approach a little and see the reaction of Japan. When the Japanese army did not respond, they approached further. This continued until they were right at the foot of the hills that the Japanese armies were camped at.
Here they constructed a new city with courage no man could understand. Did they seriously think that Japan would not attack the city and loot the much needed resources? The men were so eager to attack the city that the General could not convince them to wait for further orders. Supplies from Japan had began to fall short for the armies in the hills and this new outpost would mean a fresh outfit for the men.
General Silverwolf spoke with the leaders of each of the armies under his command about holding off until word could get back to Japan to see what the King ordered. Most of the armies respected his wishes, but the Kamakazi unit had been the most vocal of the troops wishing to attack. They had rallied the Blackforge Army of axemen into going against orders to attack the city. Ironically, every man of the Kamakazi unit was slain in the attack having the axemen of Blackforge severely injured but actually victorious. Their numbers were reduced from a thousand to close to two hundred. Silverwolf knew that they had no choice but to attack with another wave before the city could recover from the first attacks.
He rallied his swordsmen in his regiment and called the charge where they slaughtered almost everyone within the city in the rage of their fallen warrior brothers. When the battle was over the General cursed at the remaining armies to follow his commands as this was a result in the arrogance of the Kamakazi troops. Morale was shifting in the armies but when the catapults had shown up the men were rallied to the cause once more.
The armies had to regroup in the following month to regain their numbers. A few additional troops had came with the catapults to add to the ranks of the Blackforge Army. Also, another army of axemen called the Wastelanders had shown up. They had experience in battle from the days where the guarded the empire from the barbarians that had came from the Wasteland Desert. When Wasteland Pass had been founded, these troops had guarded the small outpost for a small period of time where they had became equipped with some axes made by the local blacksmith. The troops now had more supplies than they needed and began preparing for their march to Medina.
While the armies to the northeast prepared for their march on Medina, Tokugawa had been promoting settlement into the southern jungles. A volunteer unit was soon dispatched as people from many cities came to Gateway City with wishes to join the new settlers unit for ownership of land rights in the new city.
The city of Tribal Springs was founded soon after. A small deposit of gold in hills to the southeast was the site of the new mining city. This would allow Tokugawa to seize more of the precious metal now becoming more popular in the growing economy. Jewelry made from the mine in Golden Harbor had became quite popular recently. By accessing this new source in Trbail Springs, Japan may be able to sell some of this gold to other nations as well as secure a safe amount for their own demand.
The jungles to the south had long began to work their way into Japanese story telling. Since the barbarian tribes first appeared, stories of fallen soldiers haunting the jungles to the south had became popular. No proof of this was ever given but it did result in a common name for the jungles. The people had began to refer to the jungles as the Spectre Jungles. Many would not get to close to the edge of the jungles themselves. But a few merchants had heard of the American cities in the southwest and got enough supplies to start a trading outpost and travelled deep into the jungles along the Gateway River. Here they founded the small outpost known as Barter Passage.
General Silverwolf's armies recovered from the unexpected Kamakazi assault in the following months. As more recruits and new catapults had shown up, Silverwolf readied the men for the march on Medina. The people around the area began to show extreme favor towards Silverwolf and even the growing town of Honor of Japan had soon received the nickname of Silverwolf Pass. This name was becoming more and more widely used as the armies commanded by Nathaniel Silverwolf had a tendancy to rally the spirits of the Japanese people.
The armies reached the wooden gates of Medina sooner than anticipated. This was a fortunate turn of events as Medina had been expecting the Japanese troops sooner or later and although they had not been able to get walls up fast enough, they had made preparations. The citizens of Medina had dug trenches and used sharpened logs as spikes within the trenches to slow the advance of the Japanese troops.
The new catapult units had after all proved vital as they were able to bombard these extra measures that had been taken. This ultimately created a path of rumble for the armies to soon march on towards the wooden gates of the city itself. The troops took note of the amount of wood and resin used in the defenses they had crushed and began making clusters of wood and resin mixed with the dead wild grass that grew in the area. When the defenses were weakened, the troops moved in closer to have the catapults rush the city gates with fire bombs they had made. The city fumed with black smoke and General Silverwolf gave the order for the first wave to invade.
The Glory Raiders and Silverwolf's Pack were the first wave taking out the small archer and axemen that were the best defenses the city could hold. Casualties were so few that Silverwolf gave the signal for the remaining troops to invade as well. Axemen soon restrengthened the numbers of invading swordsmen who had started to lose momentum prior to the axemen showing up. The attack went on for two hours until the Glory Raiders and Silverwolf's Pack had to pull back as their men were too exhausted.
The axemen of the Blackforge and Wastelanders had no trouble wiping out the remaining Arabs. Soon all that was left was a few citizens that cried out in fear at the site of the Japanese troops. They Arabian citizens began to flood out of the city in hordes and the Blackforge unit began the orders to destroy the city while the Wastelanders went back to let General Silverwolf know that the city of Medina was officially destroyed.
Now that Medina had been destroyed, Silverwolf let the men know that they would not be traveling further into Arabia and that they were to head back towards Japan. Hopefully, they could have some time of peace for a reward for their achievements. Japanese advancement into the eastern lands was not only successful but it had now been devastating to Arabia.
So the warch goes one. Two more cities razed by the Japanese Empire. Saladin must hate your guts. So will the war continue on, or will there finally be peace? Only time will tell.
**Yeah, I am not sure if I want to call the war off or not. Saladin REALLY HATES me right now. I am at like - 15~. He is going to retaliate sooner or later. :eek:
I am mostly worried about allies coming in but the war effort is getting expensive also. Its almost time for another dialogue for Flevance to figure out what he wants to do. Now, with more cities to support - armies in foreign lands are getting really taxing. The after-war recovery will begin chapter 4.**
Most of my reading is Fred Saberhagen and R.A Salvator. (Fantasy Authors) They are my favortie authors for recreational reading. Although, I have to admit I do not do alot of recreational reading. Recreation = video games now. :p
OK this sux. My HD was corrupted or somthing on the computer I play on. To sum it up, tonight I did a rstart and my computer went into a boot loop. I tried everything I could think of and had no choice but to do a system restore that wiped everything. Game Over.:borg: [pissed]
I will start a new one sometime this week. It sucks all my time spent so far wnt into the toilet. If interested, my plans were leaning towards making peace with Saladin and probably was going to declare war again when I had a better grip on my economy.
Thanks for reading this whoever has followed it through. Sorry for an abrupt ending that seems very unfinished. I will be making a new story under the same title. I will start it over in the next week however.:wallbash:
awsome job! sorry to hear about your computer. that sucks! for you and us. love the story and look forward to the next one.
keep it up Sire.
It's ironic the thread named "No story yet" was the one that was abandoned. It's like it was cursed from the start. :sad:
