Firaxis, represented by Ed Beach, has recently been present when the Shawnee tribe opened a new language center helped into being by Firaxis.

Says the news outlet about the center,
"The hope is to carry on the Shawnee Tribe’s language and music for generations to come."

Firaxis also gifted the tribe with a recording studio as part of their cooperation on Sid Meier's Civilization VII, and the tribe now has a first-language speaker on staff, utilizing him to "hear, with his voice, the music, the prosody of Shawnee language, so that lyrical quality that all languages have, we’ll be able to capture that from a first-language speaker." says Chief Ben Barnes, who is a long time avid video game fan.

Very cool news. I would love to see some of the first-hand research they did, I'm curious about the meaning of a lot of the Shawnee city names and the names of their various abilities.

They might be named after clan groups.

There usually based on a terrain features or resources at the location or an event that happened there. The place of the wild onions, the dawn shining as the wind moves through, name for swamp (Wabash), great big lake Michi Gami. That's why I want to be able to change city names. Because I see words that don't make since.

Perhaps it is possible to contact the center directly? I am sure they'd love to share information about their tribe. :)

this is awesome. they brought sincere representation after all.

Good news. Tecumseh will be my first game, and he's just a cool looking leader all around.

I do believe there is value in preserving language, and I hope they can preserve their language for many years to come. It's not easy now days to do that.

im not one of the typical soft skulls who cry about everything, but i will say, this is a good look for firaxis and a super cool thing to do. not only a great thing, but it fits with firaxis and the game. so it doesnt appear like pandering....like when everybody else does stuff like this. maybe use the center to provide voice acting for future leaders?
