taltho's Globe World

have you tried to right click on the link, then select save target as..
this way it will ask you where to put it, instead of trying to open it. this instruction only works for IE & Opera

:( yeah... i've tried that as well. For some reason it (my pc) will not recognize the file as a compressed (zipped) file. It "sees" the file as a document. I don't have this problem with other posted files in the forums.

Have you been able to download and unzip this?

Also wondering if you've had a chance to contemplate "true wrapping" on the Filler Projection map.

as for true wrapping, I have come up with one idea, the fuller projection map, on a fully square map, with the map angle at a daigonal across it. then filling in the open area between with normal ocean squares, but with pathways of zero movement sea squares, to allow you to connect the pieces correctly. This requires that there be plenty of room around the actuall 'map' for the myriad of pathways connecting the pieces.

Is anyone else using IE having problems downloading? :( I wish I knew what was wrong (though I'm beginning to suspect WinXP could be the issue).

Chizzy- great idea for the Fuller Projection Map. I'll chew on it.

I've been test playing it and the warping (not wrapping) concept seems to be working really well. The program recognizes the 0 move value for oceans and is routing my sea vessels at really interesting angels across the map folds. My oppnents have also "figured out" this unique map configuration.

It's worked for me (by the way I enjoyed my game run through this map) Maybe try right clicking on the link and choosing save target as. This map would be interesting with a space type terrain replacing the seas. Coast squares would be the planet's atmosphere, Sea squares would be asteroid filled near space and the Ocean would be empty deep space. Then the other circles would be other planets.
Oops sorry I just noticed someone has already suggested save as...

A fellow civver noticing my dispair has emailed the file to me:D (Thanks!)

I'll look into updating IE. Its just wierd that this is the only file from the forum that I've had this problem with. Not upset or anything... just really really curious.

:( Hey all:
MY computer keep's crashing, can't tell what the problem is.
VERRY FRUSTERATING!!:wallbash:
This may or may not have anything to do with downloading files from cfc?? The reason I mention this is cause I downloaded my favorite mod's (DYP, Ancaint Mediterainian mod's) then within hours all my DLL files where gone:mad:....... I hop not cause I love civ and I love this site. My computer is only 9 months old! Should'nt have problems. The first time was when I tryed downloading world 2003. I really really hope it aint this site.

Anyway I will try to post a scan of my tours earth that I skeched out on papper, I have about five days into it now, all saved datta  gone. I will email this soon as possable to chizzy, any one who wants can help with this.

:) I'm glad to know that this download is working.....for most.
abiliard glad to know it worked out for y'a:cool: :goodjob:

Taltho- If you'd like, I can post your map at my site (about to launch it: startadsl.hu/abilardscloister/). Let me know.

Started a game on it last night- insanely gorgeous! Great variety in the terrain. One comment though... the vanity tundra:lol: ?

Ok! Here it is :D taltho's earth map sketch.
This is my earth map, I sketched it from a globe. the south pole is the four corner's, north pole center.
Distances are quite acurate, one cannot be fully acurate with a flat surface from a globe shape. this sketch is without major detail, some Island's are not there ext. this was only to get the basic shape onto a flat surface

Ok! "the vanity tundra" .........................Just....um...had to...... do it, could'nt reasist:D [dance] Too temptig! By far.

Ok cant get the image to work. will try latter.:(

You want the poles to be as far apart as possible. To do that, one must be in the center of the map and the other must be at the four corners.

Th-

I gotta confess that i'm scratching my head on your post... what do you mean by donut poles?

Also- finished my game. Fantastic considering the placement of resources around the map. A race for oil and aluminum should pretty much dominate the end game.

This is driving me crazy :crazyeye:

I want an x/y-wrapping giga-world map (320X320)... :P I dont want wasted space with zero movement tiles. So I started trying to make a world map. This is where i'm at now.

Would anyone want a map like this? I'm doing it all free-hand, so its pretty terrible, but it keeps getting better. Trying to wrap my mind around the warping caused by trying to put the world in a map like this is a chore though. :p

I like this new map your doing Owain. It's got real potential, I like the ushape to take advantage of full X Y wrapping, nicely visualized, and executed.
My previous idea was to use a fuller projection map, and jiggle it's movement cost for certain terrain, to create magic pathways to connect thoe open spaces. This new methoed works well, and seems to take full advantage fo the full wrap, as well as allowing nukes to fly over the north pole between Russia, and the US, before ICBMS.
Kepp up the good work.

You know, my map has the tip of south america at the top right.
it comes compleat with a lunner landing .
naval units traval the same dictance between land points as a true globe, altho hte pathway is differant. the terrain is as georgous as talltho's globe world2 complete with signature [dance] [dance]
:vomit: :viking:
I think it's pretty cool that somone-else completed another map so similer :goodjob:

Oswain, image looks good, now about posting it, so we can download the map? any chance that can be done?

Chizzy

You Know chizzy, I would like to do that, but it seems that every-one would rather beat me to the punch. so punishment is I'll let them all go for it while I kick back and laugh, I origonaly had this fourm for Globe World (witch I'm proud of ) but it seems that it turned into a race for others to compleat a project I'v already done. I truly admire oswain and his work, but a master pice no. Sorry no offence intended oswain. it needs a moon, boundry's and the continents to be reversed as in a mirrored view. I am an artist, inventive architect, practical, logical and posses a fair amount of vission, forsight and spycological savy. I do things for myself and not the presteige or praise of others, I challange myself too better myself, not for reasons of vanity. innovation is a challange that brings technological advances to the self and all humanity. Chizzy I respect and admire you But I cannot post my map here sorry. if I where to give it to any one it would probly be you. who knows I may email you that some day.

Greetings master artists. I would love to have an email of your x/y wrapped world. I am currently building a ww2 scenario with conquests, and need a really accurate map to help set it apart.
