Hey, want a game?

Next weekend, I will take the time to host a game or two. If anyone wants to show up, that would be cool too :)

Today, on the 13th, we had 6 players in a game at the same time.

Ivanbin, Ryansee, Thirlan, Yann, Scutarii, and Myself.

4 - 7 players is pretty much the sweet spot for FFH2 MP. If 8 players show up, we will likely break into 2 games of 4 players. At least, assuming all 8 cannot connect.

If hosting is slow, (ie, not many people show up) then we will launch a game as soon as the 4th person arrives AND everyone is able to connect.

Rules:

More Naval AI v2.41

install guide: FFH 0.41 patch n -> patch o -> MNAI 2.41

due to simul turns, immobilization spells such as Blind and Entangle are banned. (these are the only two spells in existence)

Edit: we will have a vote to see if Entangle is allowed, due to only 4 units being able to cast the spell.

Spoiler :

Charm and Slow are still allowed, as well as the destructive Tsunami and Pillar of Fire spells.

Small Map, Quick Speed, Simultaneous Turns, Turn Timer.

We can vote on Turn Timer speed once the game is being hosted. Lately we have played Medium speed, but sometimes its better to play at Fast or Blazing just to get the game closer to completion.

Addendums:

I am open to Play by E-mails as well, but this will be a separate ordeal.

Having a Skype account will make this much easier. Not required, but really helpful.

Tentative meeting time is 3:00 pm GMT. Which is 10:00 am US Eastern time.

The goal is to launch a game within 30 minutes after the meeting time, although this could take longer. As long as everyone shows up with 2.41 (patched from FFH2 0.41 patch o), everything should go smoothly.

Without using Advanced start, we had no OOS by turn 162 at least. We could try advanced start, however it is not recommended at this time. We want our games to run as smooth as possible, which means to stick with what works, and to avoid rehosting (meaning that I, the host, will dedicate myself to remaining in the game as long as it lasts).

Tentative 'end' time is 11:00 pm GMT - 1:00 am GMT, or 6:00pm - 8:00pm US Eastern Time.

People are free to leave at any time. If they are able to return, they may attempt a 'hotjoin'. Hotjoining works in FFH2 now. If you are attempting a hotjoin, it is recommended to be in contact with one of the people in the game before you try. Preferably myself, the host. Now, in this case, Skype comes in handy because I can hear Skype from within the game.

If someone has to leave for any reason, the game will continue.
Spoiler :
Due to the nature of 1-day games, it is nearly impossible to reload a 'save-game' at a later date. For 2 player games, or even 3 player games, a save game may be appropriate, but for the purposes this type of game, the game must go on. Obviously once enough people leave the game, the game dies. Therefore, I would ask that participants come prepared to invest at least 3-4 hours into the game itself. If you have to leave, you may attempt to hotjoin later. 90% of the time this works, but not always. And rehosting is a real pain. Therefore please, only leave the game if you absolutely have to.

I want to thank all players that have ever played MP with me. The real fun of these games comes from the players. This is a very character driven type of game, and by character I mean personality. This comes into play during the Diplomacy ALL the time, whether its an RP game or not. ;)

I would agree that Blinding Light is the primary problem.

What civs do people usually pick in these quickspeed/simturn games? And do you use AIs?

I'd go for lanun and get Octopus and Priesthood asap and then raze all coastal cities.

I might be in. Though i'd vote for normal speed :)

Gonna get steamrolled tho, never played multi and i bet some seasoned veteran has some imba strategy.:)

We are glad to have you rebl.

And akatosh, hopefully you will join as well :)

I will go ahead and answer your question as to what civs people generally pick.

Now keep in mind, these tiers are merely for the purposes of Simul Turn/ Quick Speed.

Last game I was the Calabim, but I personally like the Grigori, Hippus, and Sidar as well. I have played as every civ, and when I am Doviello I prefer Mahala. (but I 'have' played Charadon in the past). I like the idea of a crusading bannor, but these types of games are typically not conducive to that strat unfortunately :(

Also last game, the human picks were Illian, Lanun, Malakim, Khazad, and Calabim, while the AI picks were Hippus and Elohim. A 6th human joined in as the Hippus.

Spoiler :

(tier 1)
1. Calabim
2. Khazad
3. Lanun
4. Kuriotates#
5. Ljosalfar
6. Svartalfar

(tier 2)
7. Illians
8. Clan of Embers
9. Malakim (Varn Gosam)
10. Amurites
11. Grigori
12. Balseraphs

(tier3)
13. Hippus*
14. Luchuirp
15. Sheaim
16. Elohim

(tier4)
17. Bannor
18. Sidar

(tier5)
19. Doviello

*The Hippus are unique in my opinion. As Tasunke, you are practically guaranteed to kill at least one player (if you rush) but on the other hand, your overall chances of winning are not necessarily increased after doing so. Also, some games have rules like *no rushing until turn 100*, although we haven't played with rushers lately, so we haven't used that rule for some time. (and yes, I 'used' to be a rusher :p). HOWEVER! As Rhoanna, you can compete with any of the other big bads in my opinion. A much stronger leader for more peaceful games, and as adequate a builder as they come. Tasunke can still be a strong contender, however, if you aim for high commerce resources and plan on invading in the mid-game, when your stronger units come into play. Generally adopting a religion of some kind (RoK, AV, Leaves) tends to help matters, but is not necessary. OO is also a strong religion, but keep in mind that the Hippus strengths come from dominance on the *land* ... so it won't always synergize with your strategies.

#Kuriotates might actually belong in a tier0 or 'god-tier' ... just depending on circumstances.

--->: Tiers 3,4,and 5 can typically be considered at least tier 2 if played WELL, but this can be more difficult to pull off.

I arranged the tiers, for the most part, in how easy their winning positions can be achieved within the given settings of these games.

Aren't the cottage-based civs (elves and Kurios) very vulnerable to pillaging in MP?

Certainly.

What makes them top-tier with this vulnerability? Kurios I guess I understand, fast development in a few cities that you can easily defend + highly mobile racial UU that doesn't require resources. What about elves? They seem like a strong mid-late game civ in single player, but I find they are slow to develop unless they get a calendar resource spawn. Plus those beautiful forest cottages don't do you much good if they are getting pillaged by enemy forces that are fortifying in forests.

well, mayhap having 4/5 archers helps a bit, especially as they are a fast reaction troop... due to forest movement: archers as strong in attack as non-bronze axes
+ gilden siverick
+ 10%attack on forest...
but without ranged attack it is not so good.

I find that Svartalfar are weak. But then perhaps Tasunke can prove me wrong.

I think Lanun is in a tier of it's own. Probably Illian should be in the top tier as well.

Tiers are certainly up for debate. Again, much of this depends on how the game is played. I listed these primarily on ease of use :)

I would gladly play as either the Kuriotates Calabim or the Svartalphar next game, I love those civs :)

Spoiler :

Come and prove your civs worthy!!! :p

(jk)

But seriously, here is a chance to test your strategies in a unique environment, against human opponents. Take advantage of this opportunity! :D

Kuriotates you say. Are they playable?

Ah yes ... I suppose due to OOS issues we should temporarily ban the Kuriotates :(

Hopefully we can amend this soon.

EDIT: IF there are no AIs, I suppose we could play compact enforced to allow a Kuriotate player. Otherwise, the ban must remain.
