Has Firaxis announced the minimum system requirements for Civ4 ? I have an old PIII Comp and it may not be able to handle the 3d engine....

This question was asked some weeks before, and at that time people expected the system requirements to be similar as they are for Pirates!
IIRC, under these circumstances it would be PIV 2.6 GHz with 512 MB Ram and an appropriate graphics card, obviously.

Lol....a Pentium 4 at 2.6 gigs ?!?!?

Is this Doom 3 ?

The minimum system requirements for Pirates is waaaaaaaaay less then that.

This site says you need a Pentium at 1 gigahertz and 256 mb's of ram and a 32 mb video card

It actually plays smoothly for me with my Athlon at 1.1 gigahertz , 128 mb's of pc2700 and a 128 mb Nvidia MX4000.

Pirates , I mean .

If its the same as Pirates then maybe I DONT need a PC upgrade !

LOL !

Heres the Pirates minimum system requirements from the Atari support page.

I'd say it will be roughly the same requirements for Pirates, after all they're using the same graphic engine.

But those with computers meeting the minimum requirements can expect some massive slowdown on huge maps with lots of civs and lots of things happening in the game.

ok question.... when i tried playing pirates! it kept crashing my computer or quitting, does this mean it will happen to civ 4 since it will be heavier?

As a minimum, maybe. But the recommended system reqs are going to be way higher than that. My laptop has exactly what you describe above and lags on unit moves and between turns in Civ3. I wouldn't like to see what it would be like on a full 3D world.

Most likely.

Well, the delays in Civ3 are just due to ahm.. ah.... programming with quite some potential to improvement... ;)
Especially the display of the movement of naval units is a complete mess.

But this for sure is not due to the high requirements... the engine just doesn't provide information about the next tiles quick enough, since naval units typically have more movement points than land-bound units.

...and of course, given Firaxis' history, we have all the reasons to beleive that the new engine will not suffer such problems. ;)

Well, I would say that it is pretty O.K. with my Athlon 650 Mhz... even if i rarely play on a map bigger than Normal.

Try playing C3C on a huge map with max number of civs. You might see a slight difference. ;)
