Techs too early?

I regularly notice infantry running around during the 18th/19th century, this makes America very weak as well as giving not enough times between techs during these era's to finish buildings and too much time after to only be left with soldiers to build...

Any chance of slowing down the tech rate?

p.s. I have been playing multiplayer, but I am usually isolationist and don't trade often, so the is still only one trading human player in the game (and 1 less trading AI).

You must be playing from the 600 AD start--the America UHV is impossible as you stated due to early research of assembly line. Try the 3000BC start--it's possible.
And it's better to trade often with other civs (I was just finishing a game as Turkey and went from 8th or 9th in tech at start to 1st in 1870 by 3 or 4 techs). The usual good trading peaceful partners like Khmer, India, Netherlands and Mali are essential to almost every game I play when I'm behind.

I quite like playing the 600AD start because it gives more realistic games, (no Rome, etc. No way of slowing down the tech rate on that one?

I heard someone say they were going to try stopping tech trading, any news on that?

I won the American UHV in the 600 AD start, so it is not impossible. but I did saw infantry, airships and machine guns in the 18th century (most of the times its the British and Germans)...

I am playing a 600 start. Started as Mali. Now am America. I got the Statue of Liberty and Pentagon built before 1900, it is around 1860 now. But I don't think I will be able to kick Spain all the way out of Central America by 1900. Plus, Victoria has an annoying Vancouver which I need to kick out as well, just not enough time.

Every Euro got assembly line before me, a couple of them way before. But they are all at war with each other, so I guess they did not build the Pentagon, cause they could have easily beat me to it--though I did use 1 GE.

Spain has assembly line, but they are not ugrading their units to infantry yet.... I assume they ain't got the money. France and a couple others are way up in tech. I don't know how they do it. America was on par or above them in 1733, and I traded furiously as possible, but they just leap ahead around 1800. I assume they trade with each other much more easily than with me. Maybe trading to start wars, and make peace? But they never offer me techs to declare war!

Basically after around 1800 I could not get any tech trades.

PS: I had airships in like 1820.

You need to start attacking the Euros ASAP and send two of your settlers to Seattle and Los Angeles, to block Vancouver and Spanish Western coast.

Unless I settle it, England always sneaks Vancouver in after I take their Northern and Eastern territories.

I recently completed USA on the 600AD start at Monarch but it was mostly down to luck on others not building the Statue and Pentagon I think.

In the USA UHV thread someone suggested declaring and staying at war with the most advanced Civs that are likely to be able to build the wonders and it seemed to work. I never made peace with France or Germany in the game I won. I also started invading Arabia in 1850 after drafting and slave whipping a bunch of riflemen and I had up to Bagdad covered by SEAL's before 1940.

Definitely untrue. I would say under certain conditions the 3000 BC start is even worse. In my last Mayan victory I had mayan musketmen in 1400 and at the time of victory the euros had infantry, as reported by kairob. The tech progress in RFC is now seriously out of the timeline.

I think it's all luck. I just won my 600 AD American UHV, but that's because France only has 2 cities, England has next to no troops in America, and Aztec is still alive. Nobody has military science, and France did not aim for the UN at all. Nobody captured independent Rome until Germany got it in the first conference in the 1750's. Won even earlier than my 3000BC start.
