Nominations for Public Defender

I second Ravensfire

I self nominate and remain undecided , until I decide if Public defender is right for me

Bah - I've been out for a while, so I'll Accept.

As most of you know - I'm arguementative, vocal and a strong supporter of the rights of each person in the game. I don't play favorites, I don't dance around issues.

The Public Defender has a few important roles in our Government.

First and foremost, the PD represents the interests of one person, when all the rest stand against them. The PD must be able to defend anyone and everyone that is accused, giving them the benefit of all doubt and ensure a fair trial. I'm more than capable of this.

Second, the PD is responsible for 1/3 of all opinions the Judiciary produces. I'm pretty handy at the various issues that crop up. My philosophy on all rulings is that they need to be as clear as possible. A concise ruling is of no use if it cannot be understood by most people. My ruling will be clear, and I will do my best to see that all final rulings are also clear.

Finally, the PD should present a helpful hand to anyone with a legal question or a law. An active Judiciary that can work with those crafting possible laws to prevent issues and produce a clearly worded law will reduce their workload dramatically. I'll be that type of Justice.

Thanks, and vote for me in a few days!

a real election :)
anyone have some questions(somehwhat doing with the judiciary i hope)?, as I cant beat RF by reputation ;)

You want questions? You'll get them :)

Since this position will really profile itself during Citizen Complaint, how do you think a citizen complaint must be organised? What do you think of the current procedures? If you have some problems with the current procedures, please indicate what you want to improve.

Well first a CC requires very active members of the judiciary, especially the judge advocate. It would be really nice for the 3 justices to have a meeting about it, but most of the time thats not possible due to time zones. The Judge Advocate is the main one organizing/operating the CC.
Problems with it right now include:
1. We need to fix up the information about consequence choosing, it needs to be more detailed(learned that last CC)
2. Also think immediatly once the CC has been filed, the Chief Justice or Judge Advocate(whichever sees the CC filed first) should imeediatly notify everyone involved(justices, accused)

Sweet - an actual debate!

CC's are the means through which citizens can correct the behavior of elected officials, or at least call out attention to acts they don't like.

In general the current process is how I would like to see things run, with the sole exception of the "remedy" system that I created for DG4. If both parties to the CC (accuser and accused) can agree to a resolution before the trial phase starts, and that resolution is acceptable to the members of the Court, the CC should end there. The Court should post the agreement, and verify that the terms are carried out. The Court should also state that failure to live up to the agreement will be considered a guilty plea to the original charges, and a sentencing poll is immediately posted. This gets the easy CC's out of the system quickly, and keeps the game moving.

While it's a pipe dream, I'd also like to see some changes in the tone of citizen's in the CC process. From the accuser and their supports, some respect for the accused. From the accused, if the charges are warranted, some contrition. Both have been absent, both would go a long way to making the process easier.
