Somewhere in one of the topics in this forum I read something about terraforming hell terrain. But I can't find it anymore... :(

So, who knows the trick that was posted on changing "broken lands" to "fields of perdition" ?

Sanctify then Vitalize might do it, although I'm not the best source. I know that changes hell terrain back to original, then boosts it up a production tier, but type of hell comes after that I couldn't tell you.

Sanctify will return it to non-HT, not Fields of Perdition. Not sure how you would make that change.

Each type hell terrain is a just a hell version of a normal terrain, so if you have a type of hell terrain you do not want, sancify it to make it normal terrain and then cast the appriate spell to make it the type of normal terrain that will turn into the hell terrain you do want.

I don't know what they are offhand but a little trial and error will go a long ways since there are so few terrain types.

I don't think you can tun Broken Lands into Fields of Perdition, bu you can do it the other way around. Sanctify would turn Broken Lands into Grasslands and Fields of Perdition into Planes. You can vitalize Planes to become grasslands, but there isn't a spell to turn grasslands into planes.

You'd probably have to just wait for hell to spread back again, as the only spell that raises plot counters is Wonder and it is just as likely to turn the land to Ice.

Can't you scorch to make it desert and then vitalize to make it plains?

I do remember seeing a thread recently in which someone mentioned how you can turn a burning sands into desert, spring it into plains and have it eventually go back to fields of perdition, but I'm pretty sure you can't go from broken lands to fields of perdition any more than you can go grassland to plains.

If you were able to Ice the tile then you could Scorch then Vitalize and it would be a Plains, which would eventually revert to Fields of Perdition. Still, standing on a tile repeatedly casting Wonder hoping for that one effect might take a long time.

No spell turns terrain permanently to ice. You could use Snowfall (whether itself or called by Wonder) to turn Broken Lands to Fields of perdition (actually skipping the need for Sanctify and waiting for the plot counters to rise again), but the land would revert back a few turns latter. I believe The Deepening could also be used, but timing it right would be really hard and it would still be temporary, just longer.

The only permanent way to change it that I know of involves building a Temple of the Hand nearby.

Oh, I see. I thought you meant that there was an effect that Wonder could produce that would make the square Ice permanently.

Yeah, my tip (under the tips/tactics subforum) only works for burning to field and vice versa. Unfortunately grasslands are a lil dead end ;)

Ring of fire surrounding your land is a great defensive work heh.

Ah, OK. I'll have to learn to live with the broken lands then... :(

Thanks for the responses. :)

Couldn't you temporarily ice a square, then scorch it to tundra, then vitalize it to plains?

Yes, but the way temporary terrain works it would revert back to what it was before using Blizzard when the timer runs out regardless of how many permanent terrain changes had happened since then.

Yeah, it would be nice to have an opposite to vitalize. Maybe make it an entropy 3, wither is useless anyway. Being able to ruin your enemies land or some un-owned territory that you'd want to stay such, that would be sweet.

I don't agree that Wither is useless, but I'd love to have an opposite to Vitalize, or some other way to permanently terraform Grassland.

Wither isn't the best spell, but it isn't that bad. I really like it in m version, where it also removes the Courage, Valor, and Blessed promotions. (The Spell is called Enervation and Withered is called Enervated though, as I prefer the name from before the sorcery/summoning merge. Similarly I like to change Guild of hammers back to Guild of Endeavors.)

What you want sounds like the old Entropy spell Defile (entropy 2 sorcery, was is?), which added the fallout feature. I may bring this back, or I might not. Having evil units passively and gradually turn lands to hell terrain may be enough. I might decide to give hell terrain -1 food compared to non-hell terrain.
