Hey all
After an epic battle to get away from first black terrain, which started happening after I installed new drivers for my 3D card (I installed the patch), then, ummm, "shredded" terrain (lots of horrible black lines everywhere, and no resources) which I solved by uninstalling both the patch AND the drivers (I'd rather play Civ than KOTOR anyway) (at least I THINK I uninstalled the drivers, i'm pretty well technically challenged) I now have an entirely new problem, that is that the Sea is now black (until I use the world builder work-around) and the land is now white (white as in no texture, not like tundra)
I'm guessing it could be a failure on my part to uninstall the new 3d drivers (the ones which caused black terrain), but i'm not sure how to make sure I did this (as I said, i'm very much not technically minded). The annoying thing is that Civ worked fine before I installed the new drivers...gah!
