I'm playing the original extended game on ToT, and my ship has reached Centaurus. The problem is I'm not sure how to either land the ship, start a colony, or how to proceed. I found out how to switch maps between Earth and Centaurus, but I'm not seeing where my space civilization went to. All I see on the map is an existing civilization which I can't control.

How can I start building my civilization on Centaurus? I assume I need to "build" a city, but I don't know where my people are at. I don't see them on the map.

I think you have to advance through the tech tree and then build portals between the two maps. You also have to build the next best settler/worker to help "terraform" the planet. Most of the terrrain is impassable for "earth" units.

im currenty playing this scenario hes the link to it. http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=14481

its the year 1966 now on my game. im playing the americans.
i have not got up to space colonizing yet. i will try that after the year 2030. i never got this far in the game before. so colonizing alpha centauri will be a surprise for me. on my game all the city slots are used up so building new cities is imposible so conquering is the way ill have to go.

Are you referring to the Future Technology tech tree? I think I'm up to #7, but I didn't think it changed to anything different other than higher numbers.

The manual was vague in regards to Centaurus. I do remember reading about the portals, but I assumed I had to start a city or something on the planet and build something up just as if I was starting on Earth. I thought I would have a settler or something on the planet to start with.

im keeping the tech level low for the human tribes on my game. im letting the aliens go as high as they want there up to future tech #30 something. its the year 1976 now. i will let the humans go up in tech as much as they want after the year 2025. im going to see if the space aliens will come to the earth first. like i said before i never got this far before so it will be a surprise.

im up to the year 1994. acording to the instruction book. the only other way to win the game is to discover transendence tech. so apon my learning of this i set the tech of the aliens back a few hundred years. im still making modifications to the world map trying to make it more like duckflanders nice world. my rule for now is im not going to move the northern hemispere north only move antartica off map. i made the antartic zone about 27% smaller now the weddel sea touches alot of the bottom of he map board. i will make one more addition to this scenario i uploaded after that it will be perfect. but i dont want the aliens to get transendence first becasue that might end the game to early they were up to future tech 40 something.

the population of Russia on my game is too high despite me getting rid of cities, there at 170.63 million. if i take two cities and combine then i could use the slot to put another in a country that has too few people. on my game it would have to be indonesia cause that place only has 1 city. im thinking of giving the alien planet only 55 cities then the earth planet can have 200 cities if each city is average of 40 million people then earth would have a population of 8 billion people and Centaurus would be 2.2 billion people.

My memory is foggy, but I thought you either loaded a settler before
departure or arrived with a settler for each habitation unit of the ship.

Which version of ToT are you playing with?

Have you got the latest patch installed?

The official release had a number of problems which didn't show up until Centaurus.

Your spaceship has to land before 2020 or the game will end (scoring wise). When your spaceship lands (before 2020) a new branch of the technology tree will then be available. Until the landing, you will only get the numbered future tech. After the landing, you will be able to learn new advances.

I think that you get a new "colonist" unit for each habitat you send (1-4). When the ship lands these colonist will "show up" at different locations. Hopefully above your cities. You can then build the portals and "build/send" re-enforcments from your cities. Or just use the colonist to build new cities.

Interesting dilemma... I always play the aliens, and when I get to Earth I suddenly acquire half a dozen Earth-type military units in random places. I use them to conquer a couple of cities and proceed as normal.

I've never played the humans far enough to get to Alpha Centauri in ToT...
