TETurkhan Test of Time (Map & Mod)

Sure its programmable, but they didn't program it in civ3. They said they might in future patches or if we bugged them enough. And about civ limit, it is total, and I understand what you are saying but the editor won't allow you more than 31 civs. See, the thing about the editor, is there's no scripting at all. You can't set up a simple trigger, but teturkan has apparently figured out workarounds. (for one I can't figure out how he made the iroquois so they can't build cities until later game) My point is you can't say,
"If_#CAPITOL captured
then
CREATE #CIV in #PLAYERXCITYA #PLAYERXCTIYB"
or even set up a trigger to do that.
(I don't know C++[is that even C++?])

Actually the new editor allows you to do many of the things I have done in the mod... the key is to be creative and come up with the concepts... the one big limitation is the AI and how it will react to your modifications... many times it will not recognize concepts you have placed into the scenario/mod...

When working on the mod, this is where most of my time is taken - testing the AI...

anyhow, things look good for the weekend posting of 1.9...

Hey TET, I just want to say thanks for all your hard work man. I've been eagerly awaiting this mod release. One thing previously mentioned was that you were working on getting the time per turn down ? Or was that a smaller map? Or was I mistaken ?

Oh yea tet, there was one thing I've been meaning to suggest for a long time, but kept forgetting.

I would suggest chaning the role you have guerillas. As you have it, they're a default defense unit. So when you upgrade riflemen, they turn into guerillas. This seems so odd to me.

I would like to see guerillas be a land-based stealth unit. That is to say, the equivalent of the privateer. The privaterr is great cause you can attack enemy units without them knowing it was you. It seems to me that guerillas should be the same thing. They're sort of militia with machine guns, not really answering to the government (yes, I know there are cases where the opposite is true).

You could base them off the guerillas in Central America, or the guerillas that keep invading Kashmir, yet India and Pakistan are not formally at war. It just seems like this aspect of combat is kind of missing -- once would be able to clear enemy units out of your own land without having to declare war. And that is realistic to the modern world today. Guerillas don't usually answer to the gov't.

The one problem I could see would be massive armies of guerillas waging unofficial wars, rather than formal wars. But that is also a big part of modern warfare, too, don't you think? Perhaps you could make guerillas much more expensive that their non-stealth counterparts, making them not a staple unit of the army?

Anyway, I think that would make things much more fun! :-)

and maybe add the spy setup from DYP. Kal el has done a great job allowing (at least us, since the AI usually isnt as quick to catch on) the ability to wage undercover warfare.

What spy set up is that?

Eww and I just saw a Tibetan Treasure Junk! Yuck yuck! I am playing on a random map, but the Tibetans should never get the Treasure Junk as a special unit! :-p If anything, give them the Chinese Rider intead.

I like the idea of guerillas having stealth attack abilities! But I agree, need a creative solution to prevent mass hordes of them conducting unofficial wars (like a max number per civ, or really expensive, or maybe they just randomly disband sometimes?)

So, I made suggestions the other day about improving Foreign Advisor/diplomacy, to simplify my suggestion.. can you just add how much gold each civ has in parentheses when you hit Shift-D and select which civs to contact. Right now it lists each civ and says wheter at Peace or War in parentheses, can you add GOLD there too?)

Thanks again for all your hardwork TET!! I'm excited to play 1.9!

Boy am i making lots of typos today (the last subject was supposed to be gold not godl), sorry.

Anyway, I'm wondering if you can list in the civilopedia which civs units are available to. So for example, under Templar Knights in the civilopedia, can you list the civs who will be able to build them? Thanks.

Oh, and can you list somewhere in the civilopedia, which civs belong to which cultures? LIke, Germans are Europeans, Irioqois are Americans, etc...

I think this is a bad idea that changes the mod a whole lot, this is a potential exploit. Human vs. CPU the CPU can get raped/abused and not fully utilize or understand how to even try it. You still have AIs to deal with even if you are in a MP game.

That's my 2 golds.

You can edit a post and fix any mistakes etc... there is an edit button top right of your post... press it and it will enable you to make any changes you like...

AceDragon you are 100% right in that the AI does not recognize changes done to the game which could give Human player in a huge advantage. All of my changes however are implemented only after testing is done...

Note: 1.9 the more i work on it resembles 2.0... this is proving more difficult than I thought... I dont want to give you guys a watered down version and disappoint you all... on the other hand the more I work on 1.9 its resembling 2.0... don't know if that makes sense... but anyways... should be done by Sunday...

Hey, uh, just wondering, what would happen if a "stealth" guerrilla (hidden nationality) captured a city. Would it go to you?

Yeah, if it is your guerrilla;)

Yeah, that's the problem where humans can take advantage of AI. If only there were some way to make the guerilla only stealth within your country borders only.

Or if only you could make it so guerillas cant capture a city. Arg..

I'm not so sure about stealthy guerilla, cause ultimatly we always know which country comes a guerilla fighter from in real life.

True, but it doesn't count as an act of war as much. We don't declare war on Columbia when Columbian guerillas kill Americans.

Really a guerilla isn't a standard military unit. They're not uniformed, they're more like militia with machine guns. I don't think that riflemen should upgrade to guerillas, or that guerillas should upgrade into anything. They should have some sort of special ability that makes them different from the standard army characters.
