Hello! I have been playing Civ III for many years, and recently changed PCs, but now I have this problem where the text doesn't fit into the dialogue box. All throughout the game text seems too big for the space provided for it, and you can't click on many of the options. I have tried changing monitor resolutions to no avail. It is impossible to play like this.

Anyone have a clue on what might cause this or a way to resolve it?

Thanks a million in advance for any ideas! :goodjob:

The only thing that occurs to me is that the Font the game is looking for (Arial, Tahoma, Times New Roman or something else) is slightly different on your new machine than your old one.

Which means the game is not at fault. You need the proper Font installed on your PC.

However, I don't know which Font is the default of the game. Nor do I know where to tell you to look, except maybe in the civ.ini file.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for replying!

Still haven't found a solution. :( Anyone else have any ideas? I'm running Vista.

Thanks.
I don't have Vista, but it has some issues with Civ III.

I don't think this will fix the problem, but you could uninstall and reinstall.

I can't find where the game specifies the font to use, though the scripts.txt contains a bunch of text to be displayed on the screen.

I finally managed to fix it! For some reason WinDVD 8 installed some fonts which messed up the text in Civ III. I deleted those fonts, uninstalled Conquests, restarted, and installed again.

I had a similar problem at one time and discovered that the font had to be within the first 300 fonts on your computer. I asked here actually and that is where I learned about the first 300 thingy. I think the font was a Lucida sans but that is as much as I remember.

Given the number of fonts I had at the time it was a challenge to get rid of enough of them to play.
