That Old Graphic Feeling

So I am not the only fool not recognizing the settler as a wagon....

When I bought CivI it was 4 (four) diskettes and I had to delete a couple of files in order to play it on my AT (no mouse support). Graphically it was very functional in EGA and on a 486 with VGA it was a major leap!!!

The graphics are superior in some ways...how much cooler is my ironclad avatar compared to the civ2 ironclad unit picture?

ANSWER: alot! :p

I agree. The Civ1 icon for the ironclad is much better than Civ2's.

Heck, just about any Civ1 unit is better than it's Civ2 counterpart. Doesn't look like it will be that way in Civ3, though, which is actually a good thing.
All hail Sid Meier! :)

How'bout the waves rolling on to the beach, the marketplace with frontcover (not sure on the right English word) waving in the wind?!?

It is all in Civ I! (VGA version!!!)

I've never seen that... Do you, by any chance, happen to have the Windows version? I've got the original first (maybe second) edition Civ.

Hi CoolLizy,

Its the Dos version (4 diskettes of 720k if I remember well) and it shows in VGA mode, not in EGA mode.

Just thinking to dig up the diskettes, install and play until my pre-ordered Civ III copy arrives.

Hmm... I play the same thing, also in VGA mode (EGA mode is just ugly  ). Perhaps that was added in a newer version. Heck, install it and play! That game NEVER gets old! :D

Yeah, I will install and probably leave CivFanatics for what it is for the coming days with all those lucky yanks installing and playing Civ III.

On EGA, it is ugly, but it ran on an AT with 1 Meg of RAM, and allowed to get a beer from the fridge in between turns.

Any info on your side on high scores you have achieved, you are still playing I???

I digged up the disks (4 indeed) and it is "installing" right now! Were there ever any patches?? My disks are dated November 1991. That is 10 years!!!

Those were the good old days. Civilization, Wolfenstein, Simcity, 2400 baud modems, Windows 3.1, BBS's were everywhere, and the internet was just barely coming together for consumer use. But who am i kidding. Change is good.

No, I'm not playing it right now. I'm a lucky yank! Really, though, I don't think I'll ever look at Civ1 the same way again. But it's still the greatest game of all time, and maybe after a few months, I'll come back and remind myself where computer gaming came from! :)
All hail Sid Meier! :D
