So I am buying a new laptop for work reasons, and while buying it I want to ensure it also can run Civ 6 well (may play the occasional other games like XCOM but not as concerned about these if they do or do not run on good settings).
Whatever happens, the laptop will have the following CPU and RAM:
i7 - 7700hq, Quad Core 2.8Ghz
32GB RAM, 2400 MHZ
I know, this is massively overkill for Civ 6, but I work with large data sets so I need it for that reason.
So graphics card choices are:
GTX 940MX 2GB
GTX 950M 2GB (+£48 vs 940mx)
GTX 1050 4GB (+£81 vs 940mx)
GTX 1050Ti 4GB (+£120 vs 940mx and a month long wait!)
GTX 1060 6GB (+£396 vs 940mx)
Prices are high as some jumps mean going up to a higher laptop chasis - and they are higher than any of these cards are for desktops as well because laptop graphic cards cost more than they reasonably should...
Now I know some people will say "Get the 1060 no matter what!" and that is lovely - well done. I am pleased for you that you can afford it. Congratulations, have a cookie.
What I am really hopeful is that someone with a GTX 940MX or GTX 950M can confirm they have one of these cards and Civ 6 runs for them just fine with no crashes and very high or even ultra settings. Anyone out there who can confirm?
