I downloaded Destruction, then went out to eat with my parents and forgot about it. Playing now.

My basic strategy was to connect the iron as soon as possible so the first thing I built was a worker. After I researched the Wheel, I connected the iron, and then put research at zero to upgrade all my warriors to Impis. By that time, an Ilkanda was built. I briefly resumed research, got open borders, saw that he had arches, and upgraded the Impis with Cover. Then, I just kept spamming them until I felt I was ready. I marched them over there, and I killed all the arches, but not before he built a warrior. I let my Impis heal (it was only three turns in Saladin's territory) and took the city. I do have to say that Merchant was a lot easier than Destruction, though, unless it takes over fifty turns to find the merchant.
