The amount of votes depend on what?

I found the amount of votes were different , for example , India had 45 votes,
Egypt had 60 votes and I had 90 votes. The amount of votes depend on what, population or something else? I was confused by this.

population, i think. I have almost enough population to vote myself to the diplomatic victory.

I found the number in the right of the bottom where leader name listed were always changing. The larger the number ,the more the votes

It is.

It can be confusing since game score (which the game keeps better track of in the bottom right hand corner) and even the amount of land a civ have don't necessarily have a bearing on population (which is realistic, look at India).

Still, maxing out your pop and getting to "friendly" with comparatively sized civs makes for an easy diplomatic vic.

It's not entirely based on population. The last game I got to the UN I had the highest population and the 2nd highest number of votes.
