A little open ended idea for something neat. Perhaps it is best reserved for a vannila-esque mode comp.
The ancestral ring
-Either:
- Appears on a random tile on the map
- is discovered in a mine or upon completion of an “exploration” at an ancient temple.
-Then players can choose to
- use workers (or adepts?) to reassemble it on the existing tile
- move it (upon pillaging, perhaps) to a city in a similar method to the dragons hoard
-After this, the owning player (and perhaps others through open borders?) can move scouts and other units to that tile and begin exploring the ether that lies through the ring. (Just standing there, not fortifing, perhaps? IDK much about implementation, this is a noob post for me)They may bring back gold, gain experience, form trade alliances with peoples on other plains, and if you sacrifice workers, perhaps even resources!
This all sounds good, indeed, way unbalanced, but there have to be to be some inherent drawbacks,
upon resurrection and exploration through the stancestral ring, several things can happen:
- There is a chance that a civilization known only as the “Gold” will show up, with a few of their UU Spartiatoi known as “Iyathaw” and demand all inhabitants of the world worship and pay tribute to the Evil God “insert name”.They may declare war on you if you do not comply, and you may end up with an exceedingly powerful enemy overrunning your capital city! Or. . . a powerful ally and you their vassal.
- Random barbarians of varying levels of technology and magics.
- Etherr...plague!
